Extension of Period of Stay in Estonia:
Extension of the period of stay for a person staying in Estonia based on a visa or visa-free As a rule, the period of stay shall not be extended.

Starting from 11.10.2011 the Police and Border Guard Board started to deliver data related to extension of stay to the Visa Information System (VIS) of the European Union.
The period of stay for a person staying in Estonia based on a visa may be extended for up to 90 days. An application for extension of stay shall be submitted at the latest 3 working days prior the expiry of the permitted period of stay either in person or through an authorised representative.
The period of stay may be extended on the basis of provisions of visa simplification agreements upon extraordinary circumstances for citizens of the Russian Federation, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, the Ukraine and Georgia, if they are not able to leave the territory of Estonia by the term specified in the visa or by the expiry of the visa-free stay period.
The period of stay permitted by a short-term (type C) visa shall be extended, if the competent authority of Member State finds, that the visa holder proves the existence of force majeure, humanitarian reasons or serious personal reasons, which hinder his or her leave from the territory of the Member States by the expiry of the period of stay permitted by the visa.
The period of stay permitted by a long-term (type D) visa and visa-free stay in Estonia may be extended for up to 90 days, if any circumstance has emerged which was not known to the alien before his/her arrival in Estonia, or in the case a new circumstance has emerged after the issue of a visa and the arrival of an alien in Estonia (force majeure, humanitarian, serious professional or personal reasons).
Upon submission of an application for extension of stay the fingerprints of the applicant shall be captured, if no fingerprints of the applicant have been captured earlier and if more than 59 months have lapsed from the last capturing of fingerprints.
For submission of an application for extension of the period of stay please apply in person to any of the following Service Offices of the Citizenship and Migration Bureau located in Tallinn (Vikerlase 14 and Sõle 61a), in Tartu (Riia mnt 132), in Jõhvi (Rahu 38), in Narva (Vahtra 3) and in Pärnu (Aida 5).
Documents required for applying:
** application form (complete on screen or print out and fill in by hand). Instructions for filling the application form;
** annex of the application form (complete on screen or print out and fill in by hand);
** valid travel document of the applicant;
** a colour photo by dimensions of 40×50 mm;
** document proving the cause for extension of period of stay (for example, certificate of a competent medical institution);
** document evidencing the payment of the state fee (except if the extension of period of stay is being applied for due to force majeure or humanitarian reasons and Estonia has entered into visa simplification agreement with such states);
** an identity document of the person who signed the application form, if an alien has not signed the application form personally;
** an identity document of the person submitting the application, if an alien shall not submit the application personally;
** a medical expenses insurance policy valid in Estonia for a minimum limit of indemnity of 30 000 EUR for the whole applied period of stay in Estonia.
