Macao SAR Resident Identity Card Renewal :

** Applicants must lodge their application in person at DSI and return the former BIR at the time of application. Please refer to Other Information for further details.

1. If the applicant is a Portuguese citizen and a non-permanent resident of the Macao SAR:
** The applicant must submit a “Residence Certificate” issued within the previous 6 months.

2. If the applicant is holding residence authorization documents:
** The applicant must submit the original copy of a valid residence authorization document.

3. If BIR expired:
** Applicants who are not subject to residence authorization can apply for the renewal of BIR 6 months prior the expiration date. For applicants holding a BIR with permanent validity, they can replace their BIR 30 days prior to or after the date of expiry of the Digital Certificate of their resident identity card.

4. If the original BIR is lost:
The applicant should report the loss to the local police force and request for a loss report. After that, the applicant can apply for the replacement of identity card in person at DSI with the loss report on which the holder’s name, type of identity card and identity card number should be clearly stated. 5. If the original BIR is damaged (not applicable to chip problem):
** The applicant should apply for the renewal of BIR in person at DSI.

6. If the alteration of personal data is approved:
** The applicant should renew the BIR in person at DSI upon obtaining the approval of alteration of personal data.

7. Transformation from non-permanent resident to permanent resident:
** The applicant must submit a proof of having ordinarily resided in Macao for 7 consecutive years;

** Applicants who are subject to residence authorization must submit a notification letter issued by the Immigration Department or a confirmation declaration issued by the Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (applicable to applicant who applies the residence authorization through this Institute) indicating that their residence authorization have been renewed for 7 consecutive years;

** Persons who are of Portuguese or other foreign nationalities can only apply for the Macao SAR. Resident Identity Card after their declaration of domicile in Macao in accordance with Article 8 of Law Nº. 8/1999 is approved. Applicants can refer to the leaflet about the declaration of domicile in Macao for further information.

** Besides aforesaid circumstances, applicants can submit a request for replacement of identity card to the director of the Identification Services Bureau with other appropriate reasons. However, they can only lodge the application for identity card upon approval of the request.

Other Information:
** Applicants must lodge their applications in person at this Bureau;
** All applicants may choose to submit one 1.5” recent color photograph with a white background (equivalent to the photograph standard for Macao SAR travel document application) or use the photograph taken on-site without charge as the card photo;
** For applicants under the age of 18, they are required to submit the photocopies of both parents’ identification documents and accompanied by one of the parents who will sign the application form for the applicants;
** If married, applicants have to submit the original and photocopy of marriage certificate and a photocopy of the spouse’s identification document; besides, a valid household registration transcript is required if applicants or their spouses are originally from Taiwan, Japan or France.
** If divorced, applicants have to submit the original and photocopy of their proof of divorce;
** If widowed, applicants have to submit the marriage certificate and the spouse’s death certificate;
** Applicants may be informed by this Bureau to submit supplementary documents for identity verification.
