ASEAN Youth Competition on Arts and Human Rights :

In view of the adoption of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD) by the ASEAN Leaders in November 2012, the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) is organising the “ASEAN Youth Competition on Arts and Human Rights”.

The Competition aims to raise awareness about human rights and the AHRD among its youths and encourage their participation in raising awareness on the promotion and protection of human rights. The Competition is open to young nationals from all ten ASEAN Member States between the ages of 18 to 25.

To reach out to as many youth participants as possible in all ten ASEAN nations, the Competition will be held in two rounds; the first round to be held at the national level, whereas the second round will be conducted regionally.

Participants will submit their artworks (drawings) to the national Designated Office in their country of residence.

Eligibility :

The competition is open to ASEAN nationals from the age of 18 until the age of 25. Any artworks which provoke hatred and incitement, intentionally misinterpret the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD), or are not in conformity with national laws shall not be accepted.

Submissions of artwork must be accompanied by:
(1) a completed registration form, and
(2) waiver form.

The completed registration form must contain the following information;
** name,
** date of birth,
** nationality,
** address,
** contact information,
** title of artwork, and
** brief narrative/description of artwork (the narrative should not exceed 200 words).
Incomplete information and documentation may result in ineligibility

Specifications of submitted art work :

a) Original artwork, never been submitted for other competition before and have never been published.
b) Produced using water colours, acrylic paint, crayons or coloured pencils. c) Drawn on A2 paper (equivalent to 42 cm x 59.4 cm).
d) The artwork should be based on the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (Please see the link to the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration).
e) The artwork must be submitted in original A2 version and in softcopy/digital version (hi-resolution), if possible.
f) Any artworks which provoke hatred and incitement, intentionally misinterpret the AHRD, or are not in conformity with national laws shall not be accepted.

How to Apply :

All submissions received will be the property of the ASEAN National Secretariats and ASEAN. Please note that ASEAN will retain the copyright for any artwork selected for use as the AHRD Art Competition. The AICHR will have full authority to use any of the submissions for their future publications.

Deadline : All artwork must be submitted to your national designated office by Friday, 30 May 2014.
