Guidelines & Eligibility :
** In order to apply for an initial Texas Nursing License by Examination Online you must provide the following information and/or meet the following requirements
** Applicants must have a valid US Social Security Number.
** Applicants must meet educational requirements outlined in the Board Rules. (See the Eligibility Page for more information.)
** Applicants must not have any eligibility issues. (See the Eligibility Page for more information.)
** Applicants must not claim a Compact Primary State of Residence or Compact Home State, other than Texas, as defined by the Nursing Licensure Compact. (See the Eligibility Page for more information.)
** This must be your first application for licensure by examination in Texas for the applied licensure type.
** Applicants are requested to provide their corresponding basic nursing education school code.
** Please see the Eligibility Page for the appropriate code.
** The application will request information from your Texas Driver License or Texas Identification Card.
** Please have this card handy, if applicable.
** Examination candidates, who are not able to use this online application, may download an Application for Licensure by Examination from our website (.bon.texas.gov/).

** On this page and throughout the application, the term “applied licensure type” or “Licensure Type” is used to reference the level of nursing, either Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse, for which you are submitting this application for licensure by NCLEX® examination.
Register to Take the NCLEX :
** Thirty days prior to graduation, register with Pearson Vue (third party vendor who administers the exam) to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX®) at www.vue.com/nclex. Cost is $200.
You must fulfill the requirements of either :
** Rule §217.2 Licensure by Examination for Graduates of Nursing Education Programs Within the United States, its Territories, or Possessions,
** Rule §217.4 Requirements for Initial Licensure by Examination for Nurses Who Graduate from Nursing Education Programs Outside of United States’ Jurisdictions
