How to Join Library Membership :
Adult Library Membership :
** To join a library please visit any library, or complete a library application form online.

All you need is proof of your address. Normally one of the following is all you need :
** Driving licence
** Benefits / pension books
** Bills: gas, electricity, council tax, water rates or similar
** Other documents such as your medical card (typed) or council rent book (typed)
** Other identification may be OK, but please ring the library before you visit to check.
** This will save you time when you join.
** We will give you a library card – if at a later date you change your name, address or phone number please tell us so we can keep our records up to date.
How much can I borrow?
** There are different loan periods for different items.
There are also limits to the amount of items you can borrow at any time :
** Books – 4 weeks, up to 20 at one time
** DVDs – 2 nights or 1 week, up to 4 at one time
** Compact Discs – 1 week, up to 8 at one time
** Talking Books – 4 weeks, up to 8 at one time
Children And Young People Library Membership :
** Children over 8 years of age can be unaccompanied and join the library to borrow two books (no CDs) without a parent’s signature.
** For full borrowing rights, they must hand in an Application for Membership with a parent’s signature.
** Children under 8 years of age can join the library with a parent’s signature – they should always be accompanied in the library.
** We need a completed Application for Membership, which can be provided in person or printed from the download links and returned to the library.
** There is no minimum age for children to join the library.
** We don’t need proof of address if you are under 16, but a parent or carer must sign the form before you can borrow any items.
Childminder Library Ticket :
This library ticket will allow childminders to borrow :
** 20 books – free
** 8 talking books – free
** 8 compact discs – fee payable
** 4 DVDs – fee payable
** from their local library, to help the children in their care enjoy and learn throughout their day.
** To get a special ticket you will need to take your registration certificate or a copy of it to the library.
Library byelaws :
** Your library card is issued subject to the byelaws of the libraries; in signing your ticket you are bound to comply with these.
** A copy of the byelaws is available at each library.
** All information held on our system is covered by the Data Protection Act and will not be given to any unauthorised person or organisation.
Lost library cards :
** If you have lost your library card, please report it to any library, by telephone or in person.
** You are responsible for any items taken out with the card until the card is reported lost or stolen.
** A small fee is charged for a new card.
Change of address :
** If you change your address, please bring some identification with your new address to any library so that we can update our records.
