** Once an application is received, we will carry out an inspection to see if a bay can be marked in a safe manner without affecting other highway users.
** You will then receive a letter informing you of our decision.
** You will normally be notified of the decision within 2 weeks.
** If approved, the bay will be added to our on-going lining maintenance programme.
** Road paint also needs to be laid on warm dry surfaces and because of bad weather, especially in the winter months, the bay can take up to 4 months.
** If you are successful in your application, it is your responsibility to tell us if the bay is no longer required, for example if you move house.
** There is currently no charge but we may decide to charge for this service in the future.
** We recognise the need for disabled people to gain easy access to their vehcles to sustain a good quality of life.
** The provision of a parking bay normally requires a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), however, in residential areas, we have relaxed this requirement by the introduction of ‘Advisory’ disabled bays.
** The bays are provided where parking is at a premium and are usually ‘advisory’ only in a residential area.
** Anyone displaying a blue badge in a vehicle may use the bay and generally this is respeced by other road users.
** In a town centre or areas where nearby yellow lines and other restrictions apply, the bay is usually legally enforceable and will be accompanied by a pole and sign identifying the times of the restriction.
** It will also be accompanied by a Traffic Regulation Order which makes it illegal to park unless displaying a blue badge, and in accordance with the details on the sign.
** Any bay that is approved will be laid in accordance with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002.
** If a pole and sign accompanies the bay it will have a Traffic Regulation Order to make it illegal to park unless displaying a blue badge.
** The legal process to make an Order is defined in Traffic Regulation Orders Statutory Procedures Act 1996
