Vehicle Layoff & Cancellation :
Procedure :
** Applicant must present an application to DVLA stating reasons for lay-off of C. V. R. C.
** Payment for the prescribed lay-off form.

** Completion of appropriate forms.
** Issuance of lay–off certificate
** VRC cancelled
Cancellation Procedure :
** Applicant Presents Vehicle & LOC to DVLA for Inspection
** Vehicle is examined for Roadworthiness
** Complete a new Vehicle Registration Certificate (V. R.C)
** Roadworthiness certificate issued if approved
Accident Report Procedure :
** A request is made by the police.
** The prescribed accident examination fee is paid
** Both drivers are tested and examined
** Accident report is issued to the police
Change Of Ownership :
Requirements :
** A signed application letter for transfer of ownership from the owner (vendor)
** The vehicle to be transferred
** Two (2) recent coloured passport size picture of the former owner ( vendor)
** Two (2) recent coloured passport size pictures of the new owner ( buyer)
** ID card of both vendor and buyer
Procedure :
** Present the transfer letter.
** Present vehicle for inspection
** Both the vendor and the buyer must be present
** Payment of the prescribed fee if approved
** Acquire, complete and sign forms ( C &VRC) , affix pictures and present for processing
** Obtain roadworthiness certificate irrespective of the status of the present roadworthiness validity.
Roadworthiness :
Issuance Of Roadworthiness Certificate Procedure :
** Present Vehicle Registration Certificate (V. C. R) to the cashier and pay road use fee
** Present vehicle along with vehicle registration certificate for vehicle examination and verification respectively
** Roadworthiness sticker is issued upon satisfactory result from vehicle inspection
Trade Plates : TRADE PLATE (DV PLATE)
** Dealers/Fleet Owners are required to present the following requirements to the licensing Authority for issuance

** Passport picture of owner & his identification

2.How do I use the DVLA Online service portal to apply for a service?
At the home page of the DVLA website, Click on Individual or Corporate tab to register as individual or corporate institution;
** Login with your unique username and password
** Apply for a service
** Generate an invoice
** Proceed to your selected DVLA office
3. How do I know the validation dates on my license?
Look at the back of the license, you will find two rectangular boxes labelled; 1st Renewal and 2nd Renewal. The respective validations dates are indicated in boxes.
4. What do I need to bring to the DVLA to validate my license?
Take your driver’s license with you to the nearest DVLA office. You will be required to go through an eye test.
5. I am 17yrs old. Can I apply for a driver’s license?
No. You must be 18yrs and above to qualify to apply for a driver’s license
6. My name was wrongly spelt during the biometric capture. How do I get it corrected?
Take your license and your birth certificate to the nearest DVLA for the error to be rectified.
7. I recently got married, can I change the name on my license to my married name?
Yes. Visit the nearest DVLA office with your married certificate.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is a public organisation under the Ministry of Transport. It was established in 1999 by an Act of Parliament (Act 569), 1999. DVLA replaced the Vehicle Examination and Licensing Division (VELD).
By the Act, DVLA is to provide a regulated framework for an enhanced and more effective administration of drivers and vehicles. DVLA was granted partial autonomy by Government in April, 2016.
