1. Apply for Aid :
Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSASM) is the first step toward getting federal aid for college, career school, or graduate school.
To apply for federal student aid, you need to complete the FAFSASM or Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
We provide more than $150 billion in grants, loans, and work-study funds each year, but you have to complete the FAFSA to see if you can get any of that money.
Completing and submitting the FAFSA is free and quick, and it gives you access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college or career school.
In addition, many states and colleges use your FAFSA data to determine your eligibility for state and school aid, and some private financial aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid.
If you’re ready to fill out the FAFSA now, go for it! If you’d like more information first, we can help.

2. Instruction :
Instructions are provided for each FAFSA question in the Help and Hints section on the right side of the page. When additional instructions are available, Help and Hints will include a “More” hyperlink.
To access Help and Hints :
** For questions that have an answer box, place your cursor in the box.
** For questions with radio buttons, place your cursor over one of the two options.
** For questions that have a dropdown option, place your cursor on the dropdown box.
** For questions that have a check box option, place your focus on the check box.
You can also use your keyboard’s tab key to move from field to field. The Help and Hints will change as you move from one FAFSA question to another.
If you cannot access the Help and Hints, use the Search function in the upper right-hand corner of the page to find specific information for each question. For example, if you need to know where to find the adjusted gross income on your tax return, type “adjusted gross income” without the quotes into the Search box.
If you review the help provided and still have questions about the FAFSA, you can view additional help options by clicking Help at the top of any page.
The following help topics relate to questions that may be asked on the “Login” page. Not all questions display for all students.
