To be eligible to make a request under the Access to Information Act or the Privacy Act, you must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or an individual or corporation currently present in Canada.

What do I do if I don’t know how to answer a question :
If you are unsure of how to answer a question, use the “Help” feature by clicking on the icon in the top-right corner of the question box. This feature provides information to assist you when answering questions.
How can I change or review my answers :
At the end of the request, you will be asked to review and validate your answers. You will be able to select “modify” beside the answer that you would like to change. If you do change an answer, you may need to answer different or additional questions based on your new answer.
Will I be able to review my answers before submitting my online request :
When you have answered all the questions, you will be presented with a summary of the questions and your answers. Review your answers and make any necessary changes.
How do I pay for my online request :
A request made under the Access to Information Act costs $5.00 CAD, while requests made under the Privacy Act are free.
What do I do if I need to provide a new document after I submitted my online request :
Once you have submitted your online request, you cannot include other documents. If your request is incomplete or requires clarification, an ATIP officer will contact you directly.
Privacy Notice :
** The information provided in this online request form is collected by Citizenship and Immigration Canada in accordance with section 29.2 of the Financial Administration Act for the purpose of receiving and transferring requests submitted under Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) legislation to participating institutions.
** The complete list of institutions participating in this ATIP Request and Pay Online service can be viewed on the Contact-Us page. The information collected on the online request form will be temporarily stored on the servers hosted by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Five days after the request is re-routed and received by the appropriate institution selected by the applicant, the information will be deleted from Citizenship and Immigration Canada servers.
** The information relating to online requests will then be retained by the institution responsible for processing the request, and will be kept for the period of time identified in standard Personal Information Bank PSU 901 (Access to Information and Privacy). It may only be shared with other organizations in accordance with sub section 8(2) of the Privacy Act.
** The personal information you provide on this form will only be made available to employees who require it in order to process and respond to your request. Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the institutions participating in this online request will not use your information for any other purpose than that for which it was collected. Under the Privacy Act, you have the right to request access to your personal information held by a government institution and to request corrections, should you believe the information you provided contains errors or omissions. If you wish to avail yourself of this right, you must contact the appropriate ATIP Coordinator.
** Payment information will be redirected to a secure and trusted third party web site (E-xact Transactions Ltd.) where your payment will be processed. Your name, credit card number, expiry date and security code (CVV2) will be collected in order to process your payment. Once your online application is transmitted to the designated institution, a notification of payment will be conveyed, as a confirmation that application fees were paid to the Receiver General of Canada.
** To ensure compliance with the Directive on the Social Insurance Number (SIN), individuals are asked to not provide their SIN during the online application process, including when attaching supplementary documentation in support of their Access to Information or Privacy request.
** If you have concerns about the confidentiality of the transmission of information (using this online tool) you may send your paper application or any necessary supporting documents directly to the appropriate government institution.
