You used CMHC insured financing on or after January 1, 2005 to
High-rise condominium units are not eligible.
Purchase an energy-efficient home :
Program Eligibility :
For houses and units located in low rise residential buildings
The house or unit must :
** have been built under a CMHC-eligible energy-efficient building program; or
** have been assessed by a Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) qualified energy advisor and have an EnerGuide rating that complies with the applicable qualifying requirement stated in below :
For purchases with a closing date- EnerGuide Rating Required :
** On or after January 1st, 2013 82
** From April 1st, 2010 to December 31st, 2012 80
** From July 27th, 2005 to March 31st, 2010 77
For units located in high rise residential buildings :
If the closing date of your mortgage is on or after January 1st, 2013, the building in which the unit is located has to be the higher of :
** 5% more energy-efficient than if constructed to meet provincial/territorial requirements (where they exist); or
** 20% more energy-efficient than if constructed to meet the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB).
Note :
If the closing date of your mortgage is prior to January 1st, 2013, the building in which the unit is located has to be at least 25% more energy-efficient than if constructed to meet the requirements of the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB).
Purchase an existing home and make energy-saving renovations :
Program Eligibility :
To qualify for a premium refund on an existing home you purchased and subsequently renovated for energy efficiency, you must have :
** Purchased your home and made energy efficiency improvements using CMHC-insured financing on or after January 1, 2005; AND
** Increased your home’s energy efficiency rating by at least five points and to an overall minimum rating of 40.
Please Note :
Normally, the time period between the date of funding (purchase with improvements or refinance) and the date of the post-retrofit assessment should not exceed 24 months.
Note : High-rise condominium units are not eligible.
Make energy-saving renovations to your existing home :
Program Eligibility:
To qualify for a premium refund on your existing home where energy-efficiency improvements were completed, you must have :
** Made energy efficiency improvements using CMHC-insured financing on or after January 1, 2005; AND
** Increased your home’s energy efficiency rating by at least five points and to an overall minimum rating of 40.
