About UEN
UEN is a multi-agency initiative aiming to develop ONE Number that enables entities’ convenient interactions with government agencies. This initiative is co-led by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).
Why UEN
Before UEN was introduced, entities have to use different identification numbers when interacting with different public sector agencies. The more commonly used numbers include ACRA Registration Numbers issued to businesses, local companies, and limited liability partnerships;
Registry of Societies (ROS) numbers issued to societies; Central Registration (CR) numbers issued by the Department of Statistics (DOS) for survey or statistical purposes; and CPF Employer Reference Number (ERN) issued to all employers by the Central Provident Fund Board (CPFB).
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I find out an entity’s UEN?
If you need to obtain the UEN of an entity registered with ACRA, you can search for it via our online directory search. If the entity is registered with ACRA, its UEN, name, UEN status, UEN Issuance Agency, entity type and partial address will appear on the website.
If the entity is not registered with ACRA but registered with another government agency (for e.g. People’s Association), you can also use the same online directory search to find out the UEN of the entity you are looking for.
If the entity is registered with another government agency, its UEN, name, UEN status, UEN Issuance Agency, entity type and partial address will appear on the website.
2. How can an entity obtain a UEN?
Depending on its nature, an entity may obtain a UEN by registering itself with an appropriate UEN Issuance agency as listed in Official website, under the link “Who will issue UEN to me?”.
3. Why does the government retain existing ACRA Registration Numbers as UEN for businesses and local companies?
To minimise adoption costs and disruptions, the ACRA Registration Number is retained as the UEN for these two entity types as they comprise more than 85% of all entities registered in Singapore.
