** You may begin and complete the online application process even if you are residing outside of Canada.
** Before you begin your online application, you should watch the video Registering with the Ontario College of Teachers. You should also select and print the registration guide below that applies to you, and make sure you read it carefully.
** To teach in Ontario’s publicly funded schools, a teacher must be certified by the Ontario College of Teachers. Certified teachers pay an annual membership fee to maintain their membership and certification.
To be certified, teachers must :
** have completed a minimum three-year postsecondary degree from an acceptable postsecondary institution

Internationally Educated Teachers :
** Internationally educated teachers can learn about registration requirements, English courses and the evaluation of credentials. The College holds regular information sessions for internationally educated teachers. Find out more about these sessions and upcoming dates.
** You’ve completed your teacher education outside Ontario in a language other than English or French, or you’re not a Canadian citizen. The College has specific language requirements you must follow.
** You need to have documents translated if you received your education in a language other than English or French or if any of your documents (like a birth or marriage certificate) are in a language other than English or French.
** You’re certified to teach in British Columbia, Nova Scotia or elsewhere in Canada and you’re wondering if you’re qualified to teach in Ontario. Learn about the requirements for Canadian certified teachers.
** These guides contain the current requirements for certification. Requirements may change without notice. Remember, if any of these documents are in a language other than English or French, you must follow the translation requirements set out in your registration guide.
In the online application, you will be asked for :
** personal information – full name, address and other information to establish your identity
** general information about your teacher education program – what it has prepared you to teach, and where you completed it or are enrolled (Step 1, Teacher Education)
** details of your teacher education program, including supervised practice teaching (Step 2, Teacher Education Program)
** details of your academic or technological qualifications (Step 3, Academic or Technological Qualifications)
** details of any previous teacher certification or teaching experience (not supervised practice teaching) that you may have (Step 4, Teacher Certification and Teaching Experience).
** We require complete information to determine whether or not you meet the requirements for certification in Ontario. The College does not accept assessments of your qualifications made by other organizations, for example, WES evaluation or Évaluation comparative des etudes effectuées hors du Québec.
** You must provide complete information in all of the sections above. For example, if you are already certified to teach in another jurisdiction, you must click on Add Another Teacher Certification and a new box will open so you can fill in the additional information.
** It is very important that you provide accurate, full information in your application. Providing false information to the College is professional misconduct and could be punishable by penalties as serious as revocation of a teaching licence.
** In Step 5, you will be required to complete a declaration about your suitability to be certified. If you answer Yes to any of the questions, a text box will open so you can provide full details.
** Step 6 will display a summary of the information you have provided, and at Step 7 you pay the fees that are required to process your application. When the College determines you are eligible, you will be required to pay the Annual Membership Fee.
** As you will see in your registration guide, documents that provide proof of your identity, qualifications and fitness to teach are also required to complete your application.
** Some of these documents must be received by the College directly from the granting or issuing institutions, while we can accept other documents directly from applicants.
** When submitting documents to the College, it is important to follow requirements set out in the registration guides to avoid delays. For example, if a transcript is not received directly from the institution or does not contain all of the required information it will not be accepted.
** Please review the registration guide carefully to ensure the documents required for your application are submitted correctly.
** If you completed your postsecondary degree and/or teacher education in Ontario, you may be able to order transcripts from the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) by clicking on the OUAC Transcripts link here or in the relevant sections of your online College application.
