FAQs :
What are the procedures for locally transferring employment from one employer to another?
Please click on Expatriate Employee Transfer for detailed information about transfer procedure guide.
What about employees’ leave entitlements? Do weekends and public holidays count? Is leave calculated as calendar days or work days?
Annual leave entitlement as well as employment agreements between the employers and the employees are outside of LMRA’s jurisdiction. Such entitlements are regulated in chapter (11) of the Labour Act No. (23) (1976).
My employer is not paying me my salary/ wage or allowances, etc … on time, what should I do?
Issues, problems or disputes that arise between the employee and the employer such as non-payment of salaries, leave entitlements, health and safety issues etc… are out of LMRA’s jurisdiction, these issues need to be reported at the Ministry of Labour’s Complaints Department in Isa Town.
Can I apply for my mother/ father/ brother/ sister as a dependant to reside with me in Bahrain?
No, LMRA can only process permits for expat employees and their direct dependants (wife and children until they reach 18 years old).
Any other type of visas (visit visas, investor visas, special cases, children over 18 etc…) is under the jurisdiction of the General Directorate of Nationality Passports and Residency (GDNPR).
Are dependants, such as the wife or children above 18 years old, allowed to work in Bahrain?
Wives and grown-up children who are on family visa or students’ visa are not supposed to work in Bahrain, unless they change from family visa or student visa to work permit.
I am working in a different job role other than what’s on my CPR or my work permit, what shall I do to update my occupation on LMRA’s system?
Both employers and employees are restricted and fully prohibited from violating the conditions of the work permit. Employers should not assign work or allow the employee to perform a different job role apart from the one mentioned in the valid work permit.
The responsibility is shared between the employee and the employer in case of work permit violations and they will be subject to the penalties specified in Article (36) of Act No. 19 for 2006.
If employees see that their actual job role is different from what is on their work permit, they should ask their employer to correct this situation by applying for occupation change with LMRA, if the employer refuses to do so; employees should report the case to LMRA in order to clear their part.
