Transfer of Voter Registration :
** Persons who change their address since registering to vote are required to have their registration transferred to the new polling division in which they live. When this is complete, the elector’s new home address will be recorded on the voters’ list.

** Transfer of voter registration refers to moving an elector’s registration from one polling division to another, whether within the same constituency or in another constituency.

** The transfer process is simple. It requires that the elector visits the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) constituency office and apply for a transfer of registration. This can be done either at the office in the constituency in which the elector currently resides or the one from which he/she has moved.

Timeline for transfers :
** After applying for the transfer, there is a three (3) month waiting period before processing takes place. Then, a team from the Electoral Office, accompanied by scrutineers representing the political parties, visits the residence to verify the new address.
** After successful processing, the elector’s name will then be published on the voters’ list in the new polling division.

There is a cut-off period for applying for a transfer of registration as follows :
** June 30 for the list to be published on November 30 of the same year; and
** December 31 for the list to be published on May 31 of the following year.

FAQs

Do I have to register at the office in my constituency?
It is preferred that you register at the office within your constituency. However, we will accommodate your application at the office that is most convenient for you to visit, for example near to where you work.

Can I register online?
For your own security, registration must be done in person to reduce the risk of identity theft. You also need to be physically present in our office as your photograph and fingerprints must be taken at the time of registration.

What documents do I need to register?
No specific documents are required for registration, but if you appear to be younger than 18 we may ask for proof of age. It’s a good idea to take your birth certificate with you.

Why do you take fingerprints?
Fingerprints (4 rolled and 10 flat) are necessary because they offer a very good means of making sure that your name appears on the voters list only once. This will also protect your right to vote on Election Day.

Do you keep the information confidential at the EOJ?
Your fingerprint information can only be used for elections. Some of your information (name, address and occupation) is part of the public record as the law requires that the voter list be left at a public place such as your local Post Office so that it can be examined.

If I am enumerated can I request that my name be taken off the voters list?
There is no facility for the voluntary removal of your name from the voters list.

How long after registration, does it take to get your ID?
Depending on when you are registered, you should get your ID card within 4-8 months. This is dependent on the time you register and the date of publication of the voters list.
