Contributions :
Contributions represent the main source of financing of pension scheme for CSEPF. This is a defined benefit and defined contribution scheme. The scheme covers the risks of old age, disability and death.
Contribution is defined in the article 14 of the Law of Pensions and End of Service Benefits for Omani Nationals employed in the Government sector issued by Royal Decree No. 26/86.
The contribution rates are defined as follows :
** 7% employee share
** 17.7% government share
Hence, the employee and the government are committed to pay their shares of contributions based on the salary used for contribution calculation. The employers should deduct employee& rsquo;s share and transfer them along with the government share to CSEPF on a monthly basis by the end of each month
Contributions are payable from the day the employee begins employment until the end of service. Article 16 of the Law specifically identifies the periods for which the contributions are not payable and they are not considered for end of service benefits calculations. Such periods are: unpaid absence and unpaid suspension periods.
The employee has the right by Law, according to specific rules and conditions, to add up past service periods to his current service period at any entity that follows either the CSEPF pension scheme or any other pension schemes.
Therefore, it is very easy for the employee to move between different working sectors. The reverse situation is also applicable based on specific rules and conditions.
The law also enables the employee who got the Omani nationality, according to specific rules and conditions, to combine service prior to nationalization.
