Food Assistance For Families :
Persons who have insufficient or no income to provide for their basic needs can access food assistance. This service provides food coupons, which are redeemable at selected supermarkets in New Providence and the Family Islands.

Note : persons may qualify for emergency food assistance while their application is being processed.
Eligibility :
** Persons earning minimum wage or lower.
** Bahamian citizen or permanent resident.
** Over the age of 18.
** The applicant must be the Head of the Household.
Process :
** The applicant walks into an Outreach Centre and makes a request to the Social Service Representative (SSR).
** The SSR conducts a preliminary interview to assess the applicant’s eligibility.
** The SSR conducts a home visit and a recommendation is made about eligibility.
** The applicant will be contacted and informed of eligibility.
Note :
Temporary Food Assistance lasts for six months.
Permanent Food Assistance lasts for 12 months.
