What Is Magdalen Commission Scheme?
The Magdalen Commission Scheme was set up because of The Magdalen Commission Report of Mr Justice John Quirke 2013. The report stated that an ex gratia scheme of a lump sum and weekly cash payments should be set up right away. You can ask for the qualifying conditions from the Department of Justice and Equality (DJE).
Magdalen Commission Scheme Budget 2023
The below measures were announced in Budget 2023 on 27 September 2022 regarding the Magdalen Commission Scheme.
From October 2022:
People on the Magdalen Commission Scheme will get a cost of living double payment which will be paid from the week commencing 17 October.
From December 2022:
People on the Magdalen Commission Scheme will get the Christmas Bonus double payment which will be paid from the week commencing 5 December.
How To Qualify For Magdalen Commission Scheme?
Evidence of Identity
Please forward a photocopy of each of the following
a) Birth Certificate (long version)
b) Proof of your PPS number
c) Proof of your address e.g. utility bill etc.
d) Official photographic ID e.g. passport, driving licence, travel pass etc.
e) A passport size photo of the applicant.

Magdalen Commission Scheme Rates Of Payment
** The government decided in November 2013 that the Department of Social Protection (DSP) should make the weekly payments to the relevant women.
** The rate of payment is based on social welfare payments you are currently getting. This ensures that:
** If you are under age 66 years, you will receive payment of €100 per week
** If you are aged 66 or over, you will receive payment equivalent to the maximum State Pension Contributory rate. This rate increased to €253.30 from 6 January 2022 in line with increase to State Pension Contributory
** If your lump sum payment was more than €50,000, you may also receive the lump sum balance as a weekly payment from DSP
