Motor Vehicle Registry Test Shed Online Booking :

This system allows you to book a light vehicle inspection with the MVR, Goyder Road, Parap for appointments between 8:45-11:45AM on Saturdays (excluding long weekends).

Important:
Heavy vehicles, commercial passenger vehicles, modified vehicles or written off vehicles will not be inspected on Saturdays, and cannot be booked in using this system. If you are not sure if your vehicle is one of these, please call us on 1300 654 628.

Inspections:
Compliance Inspection:
A compliance inspection is required if you want to register your vehicle in the NT and it is either factory new, or is registered interstate and is under five (5) years old. There is no charge for this inspection.

Roadworthy Inspection:
A roadworthy inspection might be required if your vehicle is registered in the NT and is due for renewal – check your renewal notice, the NT Rego App, or the Online Rego Check to see if an inspection is due. A Roadworthy Inspection is also required if your vehicle is registered in another state, is over five (5) years old, and you want to transfer the registration into to NT. The fee for this inspection is $47.30.

Defect Inspection:
A defect inspection is required if you have been issued a defect notice by a Police Officer or a Transport Inspector. PLEASE NOTE: You must pay the inspection fee of $47.30 at an MVR office, or over the phone on 1300 654 628 before presenting your vehicle for this inspection.

Learn the road rules :
** To prepare for the heavy vehicle knowledge test you should study the Heavy Vehicle Drivers’ Handbook, NT Road Users’ Handbook and the Load Restraint Guide.
** These publications contain all the information you need to pass the heavy vehicle knowledge test.
** When you feel confident that you know all the information from the handbooks, you can take a practice heavy vehicle knowledge test.
** You can test your knowledge further by reading the complete list of heavy vehicle questions (2.8 mb).

About the test :
** The test has 30 multiple choice questions which are selected from a pool of more than 250 questions.
** You must get at least 26 out of 30 questions correct to pass. You can take the practice heavy vehicle knowledge test before you sit your real test.
** You may take a test at any MVR office up to one hour before the office closes.

How to take a test :
To take a test you should follow these steps :
Step 1. Make sure you are eligible for the relevant heavy vehicle licence.
Step 2. Provide evidence of your ID (your current NT drivers licence).
Step 3. Pay the theory test fee before you can begin.

** If you pass and you don’t want to immediately apply for your licence, the result will remain valid for 12 months.
** Applicants undertaking heavy vehicle licence training and assessment with an Approved Training Provider are not required to do the heavy vehicle knowledge test with MVR.

  • Hello, I have booked my vehicle in for an inspection this coming Monday at 8.30 however, I will not be able to make it to you by that time and would like to reschedule my appointment for later in the day on Monday 19th September id possible. I am changing my vehicle over to Northern Territory registration from Queensland. Can you advise what I need to do?
