Renewing Your Driver’s Licence :
Western Australian driver’s licences will expire after 1 or 5 years, depending on the licence fee that you paid. Your photograph and signature will also need to be updated every 10 years.

When your licence is due to expire, the Department of Transport will send you a renewal notice. This notice will include important information such as:
** The expiry date.
** Whether a photograph and/or signature is required.
You can renew your licence as early as 6 months before the expiry date.
Once the licence has expired, you are not allowed to drive. You will have up to 6 months to renew your licence.
If you are no longer a resident of Western Australia, you will need to contact the authorities in the state, territory or country where you now reside.
Step 1: Prepare proof of identity (if required)
Your driver’s licence renewal notice will state whether a new photograph and signature is required.
If your photograph and signature are required, you will need to provide primary and secondary proof of identity when you have your picture taken. At least one document produced must have your signature.
If you have changed your name you will need to provide relevant documentation, such as:
** Marriage certificate.
** Divorce papers.
** Change of name certificate.
** Deed poll papers.
** Licence to change name.
Please note: Original documents must be sighted by DoT.
Step 2: Get your picture taken (if required)
If a new photograph is required, you will need to have your picture taken at a Photopoint location (Australia Post) or a Driver and Vehicle Services centre or regional agent or submit a photo kit by post.
Pay the renewal fee:
If your driver’s licence has no provisional restrictions or other conditions, you may renew the licence for 1 or 5 years by paying the licence renewal fee.
The renewal fee can be paid:
** Using our online payment system.
** Via BPAY®.
** In person, at a Driver and Vehicle Services centre or regional agent.
** By post.
If a photograph and signature are required, only the last 2 options are available.

Where to pay in person :
** You can pay licensing bills in person at any Driver and Vehicle Services Centre or regional Agent, however we recommend you avoid the queues by choosing another payment option where possible.

Notes :
** Please bring your bill (account) intact.
** If paying by cheque, please make payable to ‘Department of Transport’. If the cheque is dishonoured, the vehicle licence will be cancelled. The vehicle must be examined before being re-licensed.
** If a photograph is required on your driver’s licence you will need to bring proof of identity with you (examples of acceptable proof of identity documents are provided in the fact sheet below).
** The three month payment for light motor vehicles can only be paid through IVR, Internet or BPAY®.
