The Australian Police Child ID App was adapted from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Child ID App in the United States. This collaborative effort has seen the Australian Federal Police (AFP) create a tool that will help parents and guardians more easily collect and send important information about their child/children to authorities in the event of a disappearance or abduction.
The application allows families to store photographs and vital information about their children on their mobile phone. In the devastating event that a child goes missing, this information can be immediately provided to authorities.
While the vast majority of children who go missing are quickly returned safely, usually within 24 hours of going missing, the application can be used to quickly provide crucial information to police, assisting them to expedite their search.
The application also includes safety advice and checklists for parents on keeping children safe, information about what to do in the hours immediately after a child goes missing and provides quick and efficient access to emergency contact phone numbers.
Available at no cost for Android and iPhone users, the application can be downloaded

Day for Daniel:
Day for Daniel is a National Day of Action to raise awareness of child safety, protection and harm prevention. Held on the last Friday of October each year, it is about educating children and adults about keeping kids safe through child safety and protection initiatives. ‘Wear Red and Educate’ is the theme for the day.
The objectives of Day for Daniel are:
** To educate children regarding their personal safety and empower them to ‘Recognise, React and Report’ when they feel something is not right
** To raise awareness about child safety and protection, and to promote a safer community for children
** To educate and equip individuals and communities with knowledge and skills to understand child safety and protection requirements and empower them to take action
** To honour the memory of Daniel Morcombe
Day for Daniel is also an opportunity for Australians to make a statement that crimes against children are not acceptable in modern Australia. The Daniel Morcombe Foundation held the first Day for Daniel in November 2005 and 2014 marks Day for Daniel’s 10th year, with events being held around the nation on October 31st.
Since 2005, the AFP has worked closely with the Daniel Morcombe Foundation to increase awareness of child safety through the delivery of educational programs to schools, and participation in community engagement activities across Australia. In October 2013, the AFP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Foundation to increase child safety awareness throughout the ACT and NSW. The MOU is a renewed commitment to the foundation and child safety initiatives.
