Unclaimed money can take many forms such as:
** dividends
** salaries and wages
** rent and bonds
** cheques
** trust money
** over-payments, and
** proceeds of sale.
Money can become unclaimed for many reasons, for example a person may have changed their address, moved overseas or just forgotten about it.
Unclaimed money is money held by a business where the owner of that money cannot be found. Each year, businesses are required to transfer to the SRO any unclaimed money that they have held for more than 12 months.
To check what your responsibilities are as a business, go to Lodging Unclaimed Money.
Check what supporting documentation you require to make a claim.

Unclaimed Superannuation:
The SRO no longer processes unclaimed superannuation claims.
All unclaimed superannuation is now administered by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
The SRO previously administered unclaimed superannuation that relates to unclaimed entitlements payable before 1 July 2007. From 1 May 2011, the administration of these amounts was transferred to the ATO. Therefore, all unclaimed superannuation is now managed by the ATO.
For information on how to claim, contact the ATO on 13 28 65 or visit the ATO SuperSeeker website.
Further Information:
From 1 January 2009, the Unclaimed Money Act 2008 (the new Act) replaced the Unclaimed Moneys Act (the old Act). The new Act streamlines the administration of unclaimed money and reduces the regulatory burden for businesses.
See General Information Bulletin GEN2/08 Changes to Unclaimed Money – August 2008 for more information on the changes.
