Process:
** A police report must be obtained to complete this process.
** Once the report is received, visit your nearest Road Traffic Department in New Providence or the Family islands.
** Provide the customer service representative with the supporting documents.
** The customer service representative will review the supporting documents and place the request for the replacement title or license plate.
** Payment for the replacement plate or title is due at the end of the request.
** Once the plate is received, the RTD department will notify the client

Vehicle Registration and Inspection expire on the last day of the vehicle owner’s birth month.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm except on public holidays. These times are adjusted to 9am to 3pm on month end, which represents Government payday and five (5) working days after.
Transport Policy and Planning Unit:
The Transport Policy and Planning Unit was formed by the Government of The Bahamas as an initiative to develop its policy and planning capabilities in the Transport Sector. The current focus of the unit is to deal with surface transport. The Road Traffic Department is committed to providing a safe, sustainable and efficient transportation system through the enforcement of laws, responsible management, education and outstanding employee performance.
Key Functions & Responsibilities of Each Unit:
** Transport Policy & Planning Unit (TPPU) – Formed by the government as an initiative to develop its policy and planning capabilities in the transport sector.
** The current focus of the unit is to handle surface transport issues relating to improving the road traffic situation in New Providence.
** It will also serve as a vehicle for implementing government policies and introducing new systems and procedures in the transport sector.
** Learner’s Permit/Provisional Licence Unit – Issuance of learners’ permits or provisional licences.
** Examination Unit – Facilitates the theory and practical testing necessary for obtaining a driver’s licence.
** This unit also assist with the interview process of persons requesting the transfer of Family Island and foreign licences.
** Driver’s Licences Unit – Responsible for issuing and renewal of driver’s licences.
** Vehicle Registration Unit– Facilitates registration, renewal and transfer of vehicles.
