What is Funeral Grant?
Funeral Grant is a one-time lump sum of money paid to assist with funeral expenses of an insured person, of an Insured Person’s spouse, or of a dependent child of an insured person. The Grant is payable to a person who has incurred the funeral expenses.

Who Can Apply For Funeral Grant in Belize?
You Must:
** Have incurred the funeral expenses
** The deceased insured person had at least 50 paid contributions.
** For death of an insured person’s spouse, the insured person has not less than 150 paid contributions. The spouse can be either by marriage or common-law;
** For the death of an insured person’s child, the insured person has not less than 150 paid contributions
** The dependent child is under the age of 16 years or up to 21 years if receiving full-time education
How To Apply For Funeral Grant in Belize?
Claims for Funeral Grant must be submitted to the Social Security Board within six months from the date of death of the deceased person. Claims submitted after six months must be accompanied by a note stating reason for lateness. *Claims received after twelve months are not payable.

Requirements of Funeral Grant :
** Make claim on prescribed form (FG.1) signed and dated by the claimant
** Present the original death certificate of the deceased person AND receipts for funeral expenses of the deceased person.
** In the case of the deceased spouse, proof of relationship: Original Marriage Certificate or a valid declaration to prove common-law union.
** In the case of the deceased child, original birth certificate is to be presented.
** Claim should be made within 6 months from the date of death.
** If claim is made more than one year after death, no sum shall be paid.
Documents Required For Funeral Grant
(a) Original Death Certificate of the Deceased Person, and
(b) Original Receipts for the funeral expenses in the applicant’s name who paid for the funeral expenses; or
(c) Original Invoice or Pro-Forma in the applicant’s name who is liable to pay for the expenses, and
(d) Social Security Registration Card of the Deceased Person (if available), and
For Dependent Children:
(e) Birth Certificate of Dependent Child (if a Registration Card is not available), and
(f) Proof of Education (a letter from the school) if Dependent Child is over 16 years and receiving full time education
(g) Still Birth Notification Form issued by the Ministry of Health at public hospital/clinics
For Spouse/Common-Law Union:
(h) Original Marriage Certificate; or
(i) A declaration from a Justice of the Peace for common-law union attesting to the relationship
Rate and Payment of Funeral Grant
** $1,500 is paid in respect of the deceased insured person
** $1,000 is paid in respect of deceased insured person’s spouse
** $500 is paid in respect of deceased insured person’s child

What does the SSB Funeral Grant cover?
