LGSETA Discretionary Grants Online Application

The Local Government and Training Authority (LGSETA) is a national public entity established in terms of the Skills Development Act (No. 97 of 1998), and as such is mandated to promote skills development for the local government sector.

It is a schedule 3A public entity and is accordingly subject to the prescripts of the Public Finance Management Act (“PFMA”) and applicable Treasury Regulations. LGSETA recognises that the workforce is tasked to deliver services, sustainably and equitably to about 53 million people living in South Africa on a daily basis.

However in order to achieve service delivery, it is essential that the local government sector has a skilled and capable workforce.

To this end, LGSETA has a critical role to play to ensure that it achieves its key strategic outcome of contributing to the development of a skilled and capable workforce for the advancement of a responsive, accountable, efficient and effective local government system. In doing so; the Local Government and Training Authority invites suitable candidates to apply for the 2015/16 Discretionary Grant.

Who can Apply

Discretionary grants are to be used to address skills needs as set out in LGSETA’s Sector Skills Plan and Annual Performance Plan; in particular to allocate funds to PIVOTAL programs that address scarce and critical skills within the local government sector.

The Grant Regulations encourages access to Discretionary Grants to be accessible to all legal persons or enterprises of different sizes including:

** Organisations/Institutions in the Local Government sector (Levy paying and exempt non-levy paying entities).
** Public education and training institutions including, Technical and Vocational Education and Training college(TVETS) and Higher Education and Training colleges(HET)

** Public Institutions including government departments, agencies and state owned enterprises.
** Training providers that are accredited to provide training for qualifications in the Local Government sector.

** Non-Profit Organisations (NPO’s)/Non-Government Organisations (NGO’s)
** Co-operatives
** Community Based Organisations
** Other role players in the Local Government Sector, including research, traditional and industry bodies.

** The application window opens on 19 January 2015 at 8:00am till 27 February 2015 at 23:59 (midnight)
