Home Improvement Grant Programme
The Home Improvement Grant Programme (HIG) targets eligible persons who wish to execute improvement works on their home. The Ministry would provide a maximum of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000.00) to successful applicants for approved repair works.

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for the grant:
** Combined household incomes must not exceed $5,000.00 per month or $60,000.00 per annum
** Must be a resident citizen of Trinidad and Tobago
** Must be at least 21 years old
** Must own the house or have legal authority to occupy the land
** The applicant or any other household member must not have benefitted from the Ministry’s Home Improvement Subsidy
Approved repair works are:
** Addition or upgrade of indoor bathroom and toilet facilities
** Addition, upgrade and adaption of room to ease overcrowding
** Bedroom and kitchen cupboards
** Conversion of earthen floors to concrete
** Conversion of wooden structures to concrete
** Electrical works
** Improved facilities for the disabled
** Installation of burglar proofing, doors and windows for enhanced security
** Other works deemed critical to home improvement
** Plumbing works
** Roof and ceiling works

Home Improvement Subsidy:
This programme offers successful applicants, financial assistance (a matching subsidy) up to $20,000.00 to undertake repairs or renovations to their homes.
Eligibility Criteria :
Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for the subsidy:
** Total Household income must not exceed $7,000.00
** Must be resident in Trinidad and Tobago
** Must be at least 18 years old
** Must not have benefited from any housing subsidy offered by the Ministry and its Agencies
** Must provide proof of ownership or permission to effect repairs by the owner
** Where applicable, letters of Administration or copy of Probated Will; Death Certificate of former owner/co-owner of the property

Application Process :
** All applications are entered into the Ministry’s database and a random draw is used to select prospective applicants;
** Successful applicants are invited to attend an assessment interview to determine the veracity of their application;
** Supporting documents and a detailed estimate of the cost of repairs will be required;
** Applicants who are incapacitated, can make a request for interviews to be conducted at the applicant’s home or curbside at the Ministry’s office.
** A technical officer of the Ministry will visit the applicant’s premises throughout the process to ensure the approved work is being done in accordance with a legally signed Agreement;
** Funds will be disbursed in two (2) tranches, 50% on commencement and 50% when half of the repairs have been satisfactorily completed.
