Brisbane Paying Your Parking Fine
You have 28 days from the issue date to pay your parking fine which will range from 0.5 penalty units to 5 penalty units.

As at 1 July 2014, the value of a penalty unit is equal to $113.85. The fine amount must be rounded down to the nearest dollar after the calculation. For example, the fine amount for an infringement of 2 penalty units is: 2 x $113.85 = $227.70; the rounded down fine amount is $227.

Dispute a fine:
Lodge your dispute in writing within 28 days from the date the fine was issued to avoid further notices or additional costs.
If you take no action, Council will send you a reminder notice, giving you another 28 days. You will incur a registration search fee if a reminder notice is sent.
If you don’t pay your infringement, the matter is dealt with by the State Penalties Enforcement Registry (SPER). SPER will take enforcement action and you’ll be charged additional fees.

Note :
** The Council officer’s observations and notes form the basis for the decision to issue a fine. Photographs, video recordings and other forms of evidence support the officer’s observations and provide the vehicle owner with information about the fine.
General parking rules :
** When parking in Brisbane, be it in the CBD or in a residential street, there are general rules that you need to remember. These rules ensure all roads and footpaths can be used safely by other motorists and pedestrians.
Make sure that you don’t park :
** on footpaths or footpath ramps
** across or partly blocking driveways or footpaths
** in any area or space designated as emergency, essential services or disability parking (unless your vehicle is permitted).
Unless otherwise signed, the following rules apply at intersections and bus stops :
** park at least 10 metres from an intersection without traffic lights
** if there are traffic lights, park at least 20 metres away from the intersection
** park at least 20 metres behind a bus stop, or at least 10 metres in front.
