The Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) offers financial assistance and pharmaceutical supplies to qualified residents of the twin island Caribbean state of Antigua and Barbuda.

Our beneficiaries are also entitled to refunds for services rendered through laboratory tests,X-rays, surgery, ultra sounds, electrocardiographs or similar services, hospitalization and drugs. The MBS also provides financial, managerial and medical supplies to the local hospital and health clinics.
Mass Registration:
The Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) is engaged in a mass re-registration process to provide all its existing members with a new micro processing smart card which includes a photograph. If you are already registered with the Scheme and have an MBS card you are eligible to participate. However, your re-registration date may be affected by an apparent need to regularise your beneficiary status. To register you are required to make an appointment. Before completing your application form and scheduling you appoint please note the following:
Requirements:
All applicants are required to bring the following documents to their appointment; original and a copy.
** Valid Passport
** Medical Benefits/Social Security Card if applicable
Please note in some instances additional documents may be requires.
Minor (under 16):
** Birth certificate of minor (showing parent’s name)
** A valid picture ID such as a minor passport
** Passport or parent making the application
** Parent or legal guardian must accompany minor
If the child is adopted (under 16 years):
** Adoption certificate
** Valid picture ID (minor)
** Parent’s passport
For an adult (over 16) who is physically incapacitated or who for any other plausible reason has declared an individual as his/her guardian/custodian:
** A registered power of Attorney or a court order
** Oridinary Resident
For anyone (over 16) who is mentally incapacitated:
Court order (as the individual so mentally incapacitated is unable to make rational decision on his/her own)

What is the maximum for reimbursement for overseas treatment?
E.C $4,500.00 inclusive of airline ticket.
Can a beneficiary be reimbursed for lab procedures that are not available at Holberton Hospital?
Yes, but reimbursements will be paid based on the Hospital Fees.
Can my spouse benefit from my contributions to the Medical Benefits Scheme?
No. Each beneficiary is entitled to hold his/her card.
Why does it take so long to process my prescription?
The processing of a prescription is dependent on the number of drugs; interpretation of what is written; the pharmacist ascertaining if there are any drug interactions; and recording the information and preparation of the drugs with the appropriate dosage instructions for the patient.
What is the best time for me to take my medication?
This is dependent on whether food or other substances interfere with the breakdown and /or absorption of the drug. However, your pharmacist will inform you of the best time to take your medication.
