When your driving licence is about to expire, you must submit an application for renewing your driving licence to the police.

If you apply for renewal no more than six months before the expiry of your current driving licence, the period of validity of your new driving licence will begin on the expiry date of your old one.
As a rule, you do not need to pass a new driving examination to renew your driving licence. You must, however, take a new driving examination if you had a group 1 driving licence that expired more than two years earlier or if you had a group 2 driving licence that expired more than one year earlier.
When applying to renew your driving licence, you must provide:
** 2 photos (however, if you have ever submitted photos for a driving licence since 1 January 2010, new photos are usually not required)
** in certain cases, a medical certificate or comprehensive medical report for a driving licence (no more than six months old), see below
** your previous driving licence
Medical certificate to be appended to the renewal application:
When applying to renew a driving licence, you must append a medical certificate or comprehensive medical report in the following cases, depending on the driving licence category and your age:
When renewing a group 1 driving licence:
Medical certificate for a driving licence:
** If the driving licence to be renewed has already expired.
** If you will turn 70 before the driving licence to be renewed expires. (For example: If the expiry date of your driving licence is your 70th birthday, you must append a medical certificate to your application to renew the driving licence even though you are not yet 70 at the time of submitting the application.)
Comprehensive medical report:
** If you have turned 70 before submitting the driving licence renewal application to the police.
** If you are renewing a driving licence issued to you for a fixed term of five years or less on the basis that you were aged 65 or more when you were issued the licence.
When renewing a group 2 driving licence:
Medical certificate for a driving licence:
** If the driving licence to be renewed has already expired.
** If you will turn 45 before the driving licence to be renewed expires. (For example: If the expiry date of your driving licence is on or after your 45th birthday, you must append a medical certificate to your application.)
Comprehensive medical report:
** If you have turned 68 before submitting the driving licence renewal application to the police.
** If you will turn 68 before the driving licence to be renewed expires. (For example: If the expiry date of your driving licence is on or after your 68th birthday, you must append a comprehensive medical report to your application.)
