Private Guard Licence:

Before calling at the Police Licences Office, to file a private guard application, an applicant has to produce a certificate that s/he attended a Private Guard course in any of the licenced academies.

When the certificate is issued one has to call at the Police Licences Office at the Police General Headquarters in Floriana bringing the certificate as well as the identity card. An application form is given to the applicant, and will be instructed to call at the Civil Court office to have a sworn declaration thereat.

The applicant also has to produce, two (2) passport sized photos, a conviction sheet (conduct certificate), the private guard course certificate and a photocopy of the certificate. When all documents are available, the applicant has to return to the Police Licences Office so that the application will be filed with the Police.

It is to be noted, that if the applicant was a member of the Police Force, Armed Forces of Malta or was employed at the Corradino Correctional Facility, s/he has to produce also a declaration from the respective Human Resources Office. If the applicant is a government or parastatal body employee s/he has to produce a declaration from the Human Resources Office.

Local Warden Licence:
If a person wants to apply for a Local Warden Licence, the procedure is the same as that for a Private Guard application, indicated above. However, if the applicant is less than 40 years of age, s/he has to produce a school leaving certificate including the last five years of attendance in a secondary/trade school.

The Police Licences Office is open as follows :
Summer : 0800hrs till 1200hrs and 1300hrs till 1500hrs
Winter : 0800hrs till 1200hrs and 1330hrs till 1600hr

Local Warden Licence :
** If a person wants to apply for a Local Warden Licence, the procedure is the same as that for a Private Guard application, indicated above. However, if the applicant is less than 40 years of age, s/he has to produce a school leaving certificate including the last five years of attendance in a secondary/trade school.

Fireworks Licences :
** Fireworks licence A
** Fireworks licence B (D)
** Fireworks licence C
** For a person to obtain any of the above listed fireworks licences, a person has to obtain a recommendation letter from the licensee of any fireworks factory with which a person can call at his local Police office and files an application for a firework licence.

The applicant is then referred to a fireworks course where he is given various lectures associated with the manufacture and legal aspects of fireworks. The applicant is then interviewed by the explosives committee and if the person passes the test same is issued with the desired licence.
