This service is undertaken by the Royal Gibraltar Post Office on behalf of the Treasury Department and provides for an Ordinary Savings Bank Account facility.

The service is available from the Savings Bank counters in the General Post Office as well as the North and South District Post Offices.
Accounts may be opened only by Persons, Thrift clubs, Clubs or Charities which hold a residency in Gibraltar. The minimum deposit is £10. To enquire about this service please call us on 20060721 or 20075714.
Terms and Conditions:
Opening an Account:
** The Declaration Form must be completed.
** In order to open the account depositors need to present a valid Identification Card, or Passport or Drivers licence. Identification document should bear Photograph. With a reliable proof of address i.e. A Utility Bill.
** Joint accounts may be opened in either of the two following manners:
** In an AND basis – (All Holders To Sign For A Withdrawal)
** In an AND/OR basis (Any Holder To Sign For A Withdrawal)
** Accounts opened on behalf of a Thrift club, Club or Charity must have a minimum of two signatories for ease of operation.
** The operation of any Thrift club, Club or Charity must be on an “AND” basis when an account is opened. Any deviation from this must be referred to the Director, Gibraltar Savings Bank.
** Proof of residency in the form of a utility bill as well as the intended purpose for opening an account and the level of deposits/withdrawals to be expected are requirements for any person(s) named in the account.
Interest & Fees:
** Interest is calculated at the end of every month and credited into the account in April.
** If the depositor loses the Savings Bank Pass Book, a Duplicate can be made, the fee being £1.
Deposits:
** Minimum Balance allowed at all times is £10.
** Deposits by cheques require the cheque to be made payable to “Gibraltar Savings Bank”.
** Third Party cheques are not acceptable, unless issued by the Gibraltar Government.
** The clearance of cheques may take up to three weeks for UK cheques and three to four working days for local cheques; the value of the deposited cheque may not be withdrawn until cleared.
** Deposits made in any particular month will not start accruing interest till the end of the following month.
Withdrawals:
** £500 or under may be withdrawn on Demand on a daily basis, provided the required funds are held in the account.
** Withdrawals of over £1000 will be paid by crossed cheque to any of the named account holders only. Cheques to third parties are not issued.
** Withdrawals of over £1000 will be paid by crossed cheque.
** Withdrawals of larger sums will be paid by crossed cheque and may require four days notice.
** Money withdrawals for children under 7 years of age are subject to special terms and conditions available on request.
** The Savings Bank Pass Book is to be presented at the time of effecting any transaction.
** No person other than the account holder(s) may withdraw from the account.
** If for any reason the Account Holder is detained and cannot come to collect a withdrawal he/she may authorise someone else through the means of a Form of Order.
** Closing of accounts, require one day’s notice.
** Withdrawals made in any particular month will not accrue interest for that month
