How to register a birth of a child?:
In accordance with simplified rules of birth registration, hospital electronically notifies Public Service Hall on child’s birth; accordingly, parents only need to approach the agency to receive a birth certificate of a child.

What are the documents required for birth registration of a child, who was delivered out of hospital or abroad?:
In such cases, a medical certificate issued by a medical institution on the birth of a child or the decision of legal importance of the establishment of the fact of birth shall be presented.
Also, following documents shall be presented:
1. If you are parents in registered marriage:
** marriage registration;
** ID cards of both parents (or passports);
2. if you are parents not in a registered marriage:
** ID cards of both parents (or passports);
3. if you are a single mother:
** Your (mother’s) ID card (or a passport);
4. if a child has attained one year of age, than:
** Joint application of parents and the application of the child, after he/she has attained legal adulthood;
** Marriage certificate, if you are in registered married;
** Parents’ ID cards or passports;
** Certificate issued by a medical institution or a judicial decision or a resolution of the civilian registration authority on birth of the child;
If you are an entrusted person of a parent(s), you need to present additionally the power of attorney.

Birth registration will occur on the day you submit relevant documentations. Birth registration is free of charge.

Procedures of birth registration :
Information regarding birth of a child in Georgia is provided in the form of the electronic message by medical facility to a territorial office of Public Service Development Agency, which registers the fact of birth. Accordingly, a parent needs only to apply to any territorial office of Public Service Development Agency or any branch of Public Service Hall to pick up Birth Certificate.
Except for the abovementioned, if a child was born outside of the medical facility or in another state, a parent of a child may apply to the registration body requesting the birth registration.
If a person, whose birth is not registered, is under custodianship or guardianship of a custodianship and guardianship body or is a foster child of an orphan-asylum, a head of such facility or a custodianship and guardianship body may apply to a registration body requesting the birth registration.
Who is eligible to apply for birth registration?
The following persons may apply for birth registration :
** One of parents of a child;
** An authorized person of a parent;
** An authorized person of a custodianship and guardianship body;
** An official from the medical facility where a child was born;
** A trustee from an administration (City Hall) if a child was born outside of a medical facility without assistance of a person authorized to issue a medical reference.
