Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Scholarship:
The Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Scholarship is synonymous with both prestige and a willingness to serve Singapore. It marks Singapore’s continuous effort to recognise outstanding individuals with the aptitude and inclination to contribute to our society.

Eligibility:
Singaporeans who meet the following criteria:
Excellent track record of leadership and service, within or beyond their profession; and
Good academic records, for example, Second Class Upper Honours or equivalent Degree.
Terms and Conditions:
Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship recipients can pursue either a Masters or PhD programme at a local or overseas university. The scholarship will provide up to 2 years of sponsorship for a Masters degree and up to 5 years of sponsorship for a PhD degree. There is no restriction on the course of study.
This scholarship does not carry any bond. Scholarship recipients will receive a one-off sum of S$10,000, and an annual allowance of:
S$50,000 for private sector awardees; or
S$10,000 for public sector awardees, if they are concurrently sponsored by their organisations.
Method of Application:
The 2015 LKY Scholarship application has closed on 26 December 2014. Application for the 2016 LKY Scholarship will commence in November 2015.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to sit for psychometric tests in February 2015. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications by March 2015. Interviews will be held in April 2015.

Application/Eligibility:
Q: Can Singapore Permanent Residents apply for this scholarship?
A: The Lee Kuan Yew scholarship is only open to Singapore Citizens.
Q: Can I apply if I do not have a Second Class Upper Honours Degree or equivalent?
A: Yes, you may apply. Applications will be assessed holistically, taking into consideration applicants’ track record of professional achievements, leadership, contributions to the community, etc. While applicants’ academic records are also a factor for consideration, those who do not possess a Second Class Upper Honours Degree but have strong compensating factors in other areas may also be considered.
Q: I intend to pursue my postgraduate studies in a subsequent academic year (e.g. 2016), rather than in the upcoming academic year (i.e. 2015). When should I apply for the scholarship?
A: The current scholarship application exercise is for applicants who intend to pursue their postgraduate studies in the upcoming academic year (AY). For example, if you intend to commence your studies in AY2015, you should apply for the scholarship in the 2015 application exercise, when application begins in Nov 2014. If you intend to pursue your studies in AY2016 or beyond, you may wish to consider applying when the next cycle opens in Nov 2015.
Q: I am currently in the final year of my undergraduate studies, and intend to pursue my postgraduate studies following graduation. Am I eligible for the scholarship?
A: You may submit an application as long as the outcomes of your postgraduate applications will be ready on time for you to start the postgraduate programme in the upcoming academic year (i.e. AY2014). However, your scholarship can only be confirmed after you have received your final results and degree classification for your undergraduate degree.
Q: I am in the midst of pursuing my Master’s/ PhD. Can I apply for this scholarship?
A: Yes, you can apply for this scholarship, provided that you have at least one full academic year remaining from the time you apply.
Q: Do I need to take pre-admission tests for this scholarship application?
A: No, you do not need to take pre-admission tests (TOEFL, GRE or GMAT) specifically for this scholarship application. However, you should check with the universities that you are applying to, on their requirements for admission.
Q: Is there any age restriction for applicants of the scholarship?
A: No.
Q: Is the scholarship open to applicants from all professions?
A: Yes, we are open to considering applicants from all professions.
Q: Are my referees required to send in their referral letters together with my scholarship application?
A: No, your referees need not submit any letters with your application. We will get in touch with them if you are shortlisted for an interview.
Universities/Courses:
Q: Must I have secured a place at a university prior to applying for the scholarship?
A: You need not have secured a university place before the submission of your application. However, you should indicate in your application form the universities that you have applied to or intend to apply to. In the event that you are shortlisted for an interview, Secretariat will get in touch with you for an update on the status of your university applications.
Q: What are the courses of study allowed under the scholarship?
A: There is no restriction on the course of study. Past recipients of the scholarship have pursued a wide range of disciplines, including Law, Business Management, Life Sciences, Music and specialised medical fields.
Scholarship Terms and Conditions:
Q: I am interested in applying for the Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Scholarship and I am currently in receipt of / applying for another scholarship. Can I accept both scholarships if I am found suitable for both of them or must I choose between the two scholarships?
A: Under the terms and conditions of the LKY scholarship, there is no need for you to decline the other scholarship. However, please also check the terms and conditions of the other scholarship to ensure that you are allowed to hold both scholarships concurrently.
Q: Are tuition fees covered under the scholarship?
A: The scholarship provides a one-off sum and an annual allowance – scholarship recipients may use these funds to cover tuition fees or other costs. The scholarship does not provide additional payments (whether for tuition fees or otherwise) on top of the one-off sum and allowance.
Q: Can I pursue part-time studies under the scholarship?
A: As successful applicants will be given an annual allowance, you are encouraged to pursue full-time studies if you are awarded the scholarship.
Selection/Interview:
Q: How many rounds of selection are there for the scholarship?
A: Following the submission of completed applications, selected applicants will be required to take a psychometric test. Details will be provided in February. Shortlisted applicants will subsequently be invited for an interview with the Selection Committee.
Q: I am currently overseas. Can the interview be conducted via video- or tele-conferencing?
A: If shortlisted, you will be required to attend the interview in Singapore. However, we may consider interviews via Skype, on a case-by-case basis.

Q: Do I need to provide formal documentation for my ECA/CCA records?
A: If you are not provided formal CCA records or have misplaced them, you may submit alternative documents that show your involvement.
