Frequently Asked Questions:
What criteria do I have to fulfil in order to apply for the scholarship?:
The MOE-AU Scholarship is an undergraduate scholarship for students who are interested in pursuing an academic career at one of our local Autonomous Universities (AUs). The MOE-AU Scholarship provides support at the undergraduate level, to help prepare recipients for future academic careers.
How does the MOE-AU Scholarship work?:
MOE-AU scholarship recipients are paired to a specific AU upon receipt of the scholarship. This facilitates development opportunities for the scholar, as the AU is able to start building a relationship with the scholar right from the start. Scholars can express their preferences to be paired to a specific AU in the application form. Currently, MOE-AU scholarship recipients may be paired to NUS, NTU or SMU.
The MOE-AU Scholarship sponsors recipients for up to four years of undergraduate studies, after which the scholar is expected to apply for and obtain an AU-sponsored postgraduate scholarship to pursue a PhD from the AU to which they are paired.
The National University of Singapore (NUS) Overseas Graduate Scholarship (OGS) is one example of an AU-sponsored postgraduate scholarship that applicants may apply for upon completion of their undergraduate studies.
What does the MOE-AU Scholarship cover?:
The MOE-AU Scholarship covers:
** All tuition and compulsory fees.
** A monthly stipend, to cover accommodation and sustenance costs.
** A one-off pre-studies allowance.
** Return economy airfare (only for scholars pursuing studies overseas).
** Sponsorship for one overseas exchange programme (only for scholars pursuing studies at local universities).
How long do scholars have to complete their studies?:
Scholars have up to four years to complete their undergraduate studies, and are required to complete both their undergraduate and postgraduate studies leading to the award of a PhD within nine years.
Extensions can be considered on a case-by-case basis, in exceptional circumstances (e.g. if the scholar pursues his/her studies in non-traditional countries).
Some possible timelines are as follows:
** Undergraduate (3 years) + Masters (1 year) + PhD (5 years)
** Undergraduate (3 years) + PhD (6 years)
** Undergraduate (4 years) + PhD (5 years)
Scholarship recipients should discuss their academic plans and proposed timelines with their Scholarship Officers.
