Frequency Registration:

The following bands on the Frequency Spectrum are issued for use with radio communication equipment in the Maldives:
a) CB Radio 26 – 28 MHz
b) HF Radio 2 – 30 MHz

c) VHF Radio 30 -300 MHz
d) UHF Radio 300 -900 MHz
e) Microwave Radio 900 MHz and above

Procedure:
1 – Frequency Application Form will be available from Communication Authority of Maldives counter for Mrf 1.00.(One Rufiyaa)
2 – Duly signed and completed forms should be submitted along with necessary documents.
3 – After processing the application form, if it is approved, a frequency would be assigned and advised to the customer through a letter along with technical parameters stating that the assigned frequency should be registered within 3 months from the date of issue. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of the assigned frequency.

Guidelines:
1 – All radio transceivers must be used only after registering with the Communications Authority of Maldives(CAM).
2 – Application for a frequency cannot be made on behalf of some one else. Once a formal request is made, CAM will issue frequency(s) with the technical specification of the transceiver.
3 – Once the frequency is issued, the equipment should be registered within 3 months from the date of issue. This period may be extended on request before the above-mentioned period expires.
4 – Prior permission from CAM has to be obtained before assigned frequencies are used for any other purpose or by any other party.
5 – The frequency allocation is based on the types of the task to be carried out. A written statement from the relevant government authority or a copy of the company registry must be submitted along with the application form.
6 – If frequency is no longer used, CAM should be informed and Transmitting Station Licenses cancelled.
7 – Approved citizen band transceivers can be used by anyone after registering with CAM. Such transceivers can be sold or given away after obtaining permission from CAM.
8 – Prior permission must be obtained from CAM by parties who wish to undertake frequency programming.
9 – The authorized parties for frequency programming should only program equipment for those who produce written frequency assignment evidence.
10 – A third party wishing to share the frequency allocated to another should obtain a written permission from them. Frequency programming without such permission is prohibited

Transmitting Station Licence Application :
Only radio-communication equipment licenced by the Communications Authority of Maldives (CAM) may be used in the Maldives.

CB Equipment:
Guidelines for the use of CB Equipment:
1. CB transceivers should be used in the frequency band 26-28MHz.
2. Maximum permissible power for CB transceiver is 12W.
3. License has to be renewed yearly by the end of February each year. Those failing to do so will be fined.
4. In the case when equipment is no longer used, CAM must be notified in writing for cancellation of the license.

Licence Application Procedure:
1. Get license application form from CAM.
2. Complete application form and submit to CAM along with the equipment, a revenue stamp of Rf100/- and license fee of Rf100/-. Revenue stamp will be available at the Ministry of Finance & Treasury, the Post Office and some bookshops.
3. License will be issued within 3 working days at the latest.

HF Equipment:
Guidelines for the use of HF Equipment:
1. HF transceivers should be used in the frequency band 2-30MHz.
2. Maximum permissible power for HF radios is 75W for land.
3. License has to be renewed yearly by the end of February each year. Those failing to do so will be fined.
4. In the case when equipment is no longer used, CAM must be notified in writing for cancellation of the license.

Licence Application Procedure:
1. Get license application form from CAM.
2. Complete application form and submit to CAM along with the equipment.
3. equipment is If approved, submit revenue stamp of Rf100/- and license fee of Rf100/-. Revenue stamp will be available at the Ministry of Finance & Treasury, the Post Office and some bookshops.
4. License will be issued within 3 working days at the latest.

VHF/UHF Equipment:
Guidelines for the use of VHF/UHF Equipment:
1. VHF/UHF transceivers should be used in the frequency band 30-900MHz.
2. Maximum permissible power for VHF/UHF radios is 10W for base station and 5W for handset.
3. License has to be renewed yearly by the end of February each year. Those failing to do so will be fined.
4. In the case when equipment is no longer used, CAM must be notified in writing for cancellation of the license.

Licence Application Procedure:
1. Get license application form from CAM.
2. Complete application form and submit to CAM along with the equipment.
3. If equipment is approved, submit revenue stamp of Rf100/- and license fee of Rf100/-. Revenue stamp will be available at the Ministry of Finance & Treasury, the Post Office and some bookshops.
4. License will be issued within 3 working days at the latest.

Low Power Cordless Phone (LPCP):
Guidelines for the use of LPCP Equipment:
1. Base station output power should not be greater than 100Mw.
2. There should be no provision for outdoor antenna in the base unit.
3. LPCP should be registered with CAM. Renewal of registry is not required.
4. Approved frequency bands to-date: 30, 40, 46, 49 MHz.

Licence Application Procedure:
1. Get license application form from CAM reception.
2. Complete application form and submit to CAM along with the equipment, a revenue stamp of Rf100/- and license fee of Rf100/-. Revenue stamp will be available at the Ministry of Finance & Treasury, the Post Office and some bookshops.
3. Submit ‘No Objection’ letter from the owner of the telephone line to be connected.
4. License will be issued within 3 working days at the latest.

Long Range Cordless Phones (LRCP):
Guidelines for the use of LRCP Equipment:
1 Availability of LRC frequency bands will be announced by CAM from time to time.
2. The power should be more than 100mW and/or the base station should have an external antenna port.
3. License fee must be paid yearly.

Licence Application Procedure:
1. Get license application form from CAM reception.
2. Complete application form and submit to CAM along with the equipment, a revenue stamp of Rf100/- and license fee of Rf100/-. Revenue stamp will be available at the Ministry of Finance & Treasury, the Post Office and some bookshops.
3. If equipment is approved submit a ‘No Objection’ letter from the owner of the telephone line to be connected.
4. License will be issued within 3 working days at the latest.
