Enter as much of the address as you know, and confirm the address, then search to see if it is registered.
Searching for a Registered Property or Landlord
To find out if a person or company is registered with a particular local authority, enter their name and a home or office address. An address is needed to identify different people with the same name. The system will simply confirm if they are registered.
To find out about a let property, enter its postcode and optionally other parts of its address such as the House Name / Number. If the property is registered, the system will give you the name of the owner and any agent they use, and a contact address to get in touch about any problems.
If you do not find what you are looking for, please contact the local authority where the property is located, or where you think the person or company should be registered. Local authority staff can search the database more widely, in case you have a wrong spelling, for example.
If a person, company or property is not registered, and it appears it should be, the local authority will investigate
Searching for an Address:
The landlord registration system uses QuickAddress software to make sure addresses are always entered in the same way, to make searching more efficient. Please enter the postcode and optionally other parts of the address and you will be offered a list of addresses to choose from. This is the best way to make sure you get the correct address.
If the CAPTCHA is visible then you will need to enter its value, BEFORE clicking on ‘Find Address’ AND again BEFORE clicking on ‘Search for Registration’.
There are many ways of identifying flats within a block, and the system may not use the version you are used to. For a flat you own or live in, you may know alternative versions from utility bills or credit card statements. Entering just the block number, or the block number with an asterisk (76, or 76*), with the street name and town will often provide a list of all the flats. If you are not sure which flat to select, please contact the local authority for advice.
If you do not find the correct details for a home or office address, or if you live outwith Scotland, select address is not on this list from the bottom of the list, and you will be able to enter the correct address. If the problem is with the address of the property you let, please contact the local authority for help.
Landlord Registration:
Under Part 8 of the Antisocial Behaviour etc. (Scotland) Act 2004, almost all private landlords must apply for registration with their local authority (see “Who has to register”). The local authority must be satisfied that they are fit and proper persons to let property, before registering them.
The system will make sure that all landlords meet minimum standards and will remove the worst landlords from the sector. It will allow tenants and neighbours to identify and contact landlords of private rented property, and provide information on the scale and distribution of the sector in Scotland for the first time.
