Gulf Rapid Alert System For Food:

The aim of Gulf Rapid Alert System for Food (GRASF) is to facilitate rapid exchange of information among concerned governmental bodies in GCC countries, regarding notifications and alerts related to food and food contact materials safety, to take necessary and preventive measures for protecting consumer’s health.

About GRASF:
The function of the GCC rapid alert system for food (GRASF) is simply to facilitate communication regarding existing direct or indirect risk to consumer’s health from food or food contact material. This information has to be submitted through the system to allow to the central point to transmit the information needed immediately to other members of the network (GCC national contact points) .

This electronic website of the GRASF allows the central point and the national contact points in the member countries of the GCC to transmit information regarding food and food contact material safety in more efficient and rapid way.

General Objectives :
** The safety of food for the consumption of humans and animals, and its effectiveness.
** The safety of pesticides.
** Setting up a clear food policy and the planning to achieve the objectives of this policy.

Functions :
** Adopting the food policies in the Kingdom and setting up the plans that ensure the good quality and safety of food.

** Reviewing the existing control regulations and rules in the food sector and upgrading them, suggesting the necessary amendments in order to cope with the requirements of quality and health safety, and referring them to the competent authorities for studying them and issuing them according to regulations.

** Taking the necessary measures that would enable the food control authorities to verify the accuracy of the information regarding the contents of the food products in circulation and their safety.

** Setting the imperative food criteria related to food products and pesticides, and importing any of these products and registering it in cooperation and coordination with the relevant authorities.

** Setting the health standards and requirements that should exist in the food industry and those who work in it.
** Setting up the health standards and requirements that should exist in the commercial sites that are related to the public health in coordination with the competent authorities.

** Setting the regulations, procedures and requirements related to the control and inspection of animal sites, regulating the affairs of abattoirs and selling meat places in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Municipality Affairs.

** Proposing regulations that control and regulate the importing and exporting of animal and plant products in coordination with the competent authorities.

** Setting the standards that regulate the processes of inspecting food products and the raw material that enter into its manufacture, for customs duty purposes, in cooperation with the competent authorities.

** Setting the standards that regulate the advertising of the food products in cooperation with the competent authorities.
** Proposing rules and regulations with regard to punishing those who break the food regulations and working towards issuing such rules from the competent authorities.

** Preparing and developing the training programs that would raise the efficiency of those who work in the food sector in cooperation with the relevant authorities.
** Analyzing the local and imported products that come under the competence of the Food and Drug Authority.

** Analyzing the local and imported products that come under the competence of the Food and Drug Authority before giving them permission to enter the country and be sold.
** Inspecting all the animal plant products that are meant for human consumption and animal feed.
** Inspecting pesticides.

** Implementing the laws and regulations of combating commercial fraud and punishing those who break them.

** Verifying that the food products produced by the local factories conform to the imperative standards before selling them.

** Dealing with the emergency issues that require instant solutions in the field of food control.
** Preparing the standards, procedures and means of inspecting the food products.
** Establishing a database to be used for educational purposes, consultative services and practical programs in the food sector.
