Applying For An Energy-Efficiency Improvement Grant

The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure provides grants to people who wish to implement a project enhancing energy efficiency or a project focusing on renewable energy in a house or apartment. Such assistance, covered by the term ‘Prime House’, is subject to certain conditions.

Note: for the time being, this grant is intended exclusively for those implementing a project for which the invoice is issued between very specific dates, namely between 2013 and 2018, depending on the nature of the project. Learn more at the Environment Portal!

It is also to be noted that the issue of an energy performance certificate is required in order to obtain a building permit for an extension.

Moreover, people working at myenergy, the national agency for energy advice, are ready and willing to give consumers guidance about opportunities for improving energy efficiency and existing State aid.

The basic advice from myenergy is neutral and free and myenergy has 31 advice offices (‘MyEnergy info points’) across the country!

Find more information on the myenergy site and the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure site, and call the freephone number: 8002 1190!

Finally, if you are looking for a company to carry out your work, the Chamber of Trades (Chambre des métiers) has a list of companies with the label ‘Energie fir d’ Zukunft’ (‘Energy for the future’), which specialise in the field of construction in accordance with new energy standards.

Quality and cost of living :
Is it dear Luxembourg or Luxembourg is dear? In fact, both findings are true. The Grand Duchy is loved by all those looking for a high quality of living, including exceptionally good salaries and social security benefits. It is therefore not by chance that surveys of international renown regularly confirm that Luxembourg is a great place to live.

At the same time, it is undeniable that everyday life in the Grand Duchy comes at a price. Housing remains expensive. The same thing applies to food and again to clothing. On the other hand, everything connected with mobility (public transport, cars, fuel) is cheaper in Luxembourg than in most other European countries.

Our pages also inform you about GDP per inhabitant, which makes Luxembourg one of the richest countries in the world, but has to be qualified as a figure – despite the very good performance of the Luxembourg economy.

In short, decide for yourself in browsing through our articles. You will also find there our budgets for expatriates and students!

Citizenship :
Citizenship derives not only from possession of Luxembourg nationality but also from the exercise of civil and political rights.

Luxembourgish citizens have a mandatory role to play: the mandatory participation at the elections is one of the most important political rights. They are also entitled to stand as candidates in elections (eligibility entitlement).

Within the electoral system, non-Luxembourg nationals may participate, under certain conditions, in municipal and/or European elections.

Possession of a passport or identity card is evidence of Luxembourg nationality, both in Luxembourg and abroad.

The right to enter and stay in Luxembourg is governed by more or less flexible rules, depending on the foreigner’s country of origin. Once within Luxembourg territory, foreigners enjoy the same fundamental rights as Luxembourg citizens
