PA Personal Income Tax Refund :

To determine the status of your Personal Income Tax refund for the current tax year, you will need:
Your Social Security Number; and
The amount of your refund.

** If you are looking for information about a prior tax year refund or have questions, please contact the Department through our Online Customer Service Center.

NOTE: Please allow 8-10 weeks for processing.

When can I expect my refund?
If you filed electronically it takes approximately four weeks to process your tax return. If you filed a paper tax return, it takes approximately 8 to 10 weeks to process. However, if the department needs to verify information reported on your return or request additional information, the process will take longer.

** After your over payment is processed, it normally takes an additional 3 to 4 weeks for your refund to be mailed or direct deposited.
** All returns, regardless of how they are filed, are processed in the order in which they are received.

Call the Taxpayer Service & Information Center at 717-787-8201, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

How do I check the status of my Property Tax/Rent Rebate Claim to find out when I can expect my rebate check?
Rebate checks will begin being distributed each year on July 1.

** You may check on the status of your Property Tax/Rent Rebate Claim form online through the Revenue e-Services Center or by calling the automated toll-free number, 1-888-PA TAXES (728-2937). Please be prepared to provide your Social Security number, the claim year and your date of birth.

** Please wait 8-10 weeks from the date you mailed your claim to check its status.
To speak to a customer service representative call toll free, 1-888-222-9190 Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m..

** If you received your Property Tax Rent Rebate check and it was lost or stolen, please contact our Taxpayer Service and Information Center at 1-888-222-9190 for a stop payment request.

** If your check was mailed out, but you did not receive it, you must allow 30 days from the mail date before requesting a stop payment. A stop payment request will take approximately 30 to 60 days before the results will be available.

How do I know if I qualify for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate?
** The Property Tax/Rent Rebate is based on the property taxes or rents you paid during the previous calendar year. Owners must have taxes paid prior to filing. Renters must have a landlord-tenant relationship.

** Renters must make certain their landlords were required to pay property taxes or has made a payment in lieu of tax payments on the rental property.

** You are eligible for a Property Tax/Rent Rebate if you meet the requirements in each of the three categories below:

Category 1 – Type of Filer :
** You were 65 years of age or older as of Dec. 31 of the year claimed; or

** You were not 65 years of age, but your spouse who lived with you was 65 years of age as of Dec. 31 of the year claimed; or
** You were a widow or widower during all or part of the year claimed and were 50 years old or older as of Dec. 31; or

** You were permanently disabled and 18 years of age or older during all or part of the year claimed, you were unable to work because of your medically determined physical or mental disability, and your disability is expected to continue indefinitely. If you received Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, you are eligible for a rebate if you meet all other requirements.

Category 2 – Eligibility Income :
** Property Owners – Your total eligible annual household income, including the income that your spouse earned and received while residing with you, was $35,000 or less.
** Renters – Your total eligible annual household income, including the income that your spouse earned and received while residing with you, was $15,000 or less.

** You must report all items of income, except those listed on Page 7 of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate booklet (link below), whether or not the income is taxable for federal or PA income tax purposes.
