How to Apply for Graduation :

Applying for Graduation :
** Visit MyNIU
** Login with your Account ID/Z-ID and Password
** Navigate to Self-Service > Degree Progress/Graduation > Apply for Graduation
** There is a one-time fee per degree.

** After completing the graduation application process in MyNIU, this fee will automatically be charged to your student account.
** The fee is $29 for undergraduate students and $35 for graduate students.
** Be sure to apply for graduation before the deadline. Click here for specific dates.

If you wish to change your graduation date, you must do so in writing at one of the following locations –
** Undergraduate students—Williston Hall, Room 220
** Graduate Students—Adams Hall, Room 223
** There is no additional charge to change a graduation date.
** If in doubt, apply early and change the date later if necessary.

1. How do I declare a graduation date?

2. Is there a fee for graduation?
Yes, the fee is $29.00 which will be applied automatically to your student account . For more information follow the link below.reg.niu.edu/regrec/graduation/index.shtml

3. What does the graduation fee cover?
The fee covers your cap and gown rental; the diploma and diploma cover; the cost associated with ordering and mailing your diploma; and the cost associated with the commencement ceremony.

4. How do I change my graduation date?
** You need to stop by the Office of Registration and Records in Williston Hall 220 and complete a Degree Information Change sheet.
** If you cannot come to the office, you can submit a written statement requesting a change to your graduation date, designating the new term along with your name, Z-ID and signature.

** You can also email Registration and Records from your student email address (your Z account) at regrec AT niu.edu.
** If you did not complete graduation requirements for the term you applied for, you will have 30 days into the following semester to change your graduation date to the next semester’s graduation date.

5. How do I change my catalog year for my major/minor or general education?
** You need to stop by the Office of Registration and Records in Williston Hall 220 and complete a Degree Information Change sheet.

** If you cannot come to the office, you can submit a written statement requesting a change to your catalog year, indicating major/minor and/or general education along with your name, Z-ID and signature.

** You can also email Registration and Records from your student email address (your Z account) at regrec AT niu.edu.

Note :
** The major and minor catalog must be the same year (unless your major college notifies us in writing that they will approve an exception to this rule on your behalf).

Check Diploma Status :
** Northern Illinois University uses an authorized third party vendor, Michael Sutter, to supply, print, and mail diplomas.
** You may verify the date your diploma was mailed through the Michael Sutter website.
