Obtain a Death Certificate

** You may contact the county clerk where the event occurred.
** To locate your county clerk, go to Resources in the right-hand column and click on List of County Clerks.

** If your request is urgent, submit it through any type of an overnight delivery service, with proof of immediate need, and a prepaid overnight delivery return envelope.

Exact cash, personal check, money order, or debit/credit card (except Visa credit card) is accepted.

** Requests for certificates will be processed within 5 to 7 business days for a certified copy or 15 business days for a correction.

Suggestions for proof of immediate need are :
** A copy of a travel itinerary or plane tickets, showing the departure date within 30 days of the date on the application
** A letter stating the urgent need
** A statement from an insurance agency on its letterhead indicating the need for a death certificate
** Notice from immigration authority/agency a death certificate is required

Acceptable Proof Of Id :
** A Non-Expired, Government Issued Photo Id, such as a driver’s license.
** If you have an extension sticker on your license, submit a copy of both sides of the license.
** If you do not have a driver’s license, a photo ID Card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles can be provided.
** If your driver’s license or ID Card is expired or not available, you must submit TWO (2) pieces of documentation with your name on them.
** In addition to your name, one piece must also have your current address on it to prove your identity.
** ONE piece of documentation can be a bill or other USPS mail;

The SECOND must be one of the items listed below :
** Medical/car insurance card
** Car registration paperwork
** Credit card statement
** Bank statement
** Paycheck stub with imprinted information
** Public assistance card
** Voter’s registration card
** Active duty military ID w/ issued and expiration dates
