Birth certificates for East Sussex :

** You can buy copies of birth certificates for births registered in East Sussex, excluding Brighton & Hove.
** You can order them online or by post.

** We cannot issue copies of birth certificates for people who have been adopted.
** If you were adopted you can obtain copies of your birth certificate from the Adopted Children’s Register, General Register Office, Smedley Hydro, Trafalgar Road, Birkdale, Southport, PR8 2HH.

If you’re ordering online :
** To order a copy of a certificate fill out the online birth certificate form (link below), selecting the registration office that the birth was registered in.
** Payment should be made by credit or debit card and will be collected on our behalf by WorldPay.
** Once you have submitted your order and we have verified that it is correct, you will automatically link through to the WorldPay website to add your card details. WorldPay is a secure website.

** Once your payment has cleared you will be given an order reference.
** Please keep a note of this as you will need to quote it if there is a problem with your order.
** If there is a problem with your order, contact the relevant Registration Office.

If you’re ordering by post :
** To order a copy of a birth certificate, fill out the form below and forward it to the registration office where the birth was registered.
** If you are unsure, please send your completed forms to East Sussex Register Office.
** Contact East Sussex registration offices.

There are two ways to pay :
** by sterling cheque made payable to East Sussex County Council
** by credit card over the phone.

Costs :
** Copies cost £10 each plus £1 for postage and packaging.
** Online applications incur an additional £1 convenience fee.
** However, you will receive an email acknowledgment and your request will be received by our office within moments of your application being sent to us.
** All certificates will be despatched within five working days of receiving your request.
** There will be an additional charge of £15 per order if you would like us to process your order as a priority on the same working day.
** Orders received after 2pm will be processed on the next working day.

Refunds and cancellations of orders for copies of certificates :
** If an application is unsuccessful, this office will refund your order.
** The refund will be made directly to your credit / debit card account via the Worldpay payment service provider.
** A letter or email of explanation will also be sent to you at this time.
** Please do not contact the Council to enquire about any refund made until you have received and read this letter.

** Under the Distance Selling Regulations, you have the right to cancel your order for any item purchased on this website, for a full refund.
** This does not apply to items personalised or made to your specification; or audio/video recordings or software (including data) that you have unsealed.
