** Sign and date the application form using Australian Date Format (DD/MM/YYYY).
** Make sure there are no alterations to signatures or dates.
** Applications containing overwritten dates or dates in US format will be rejected.
Step 4 :
** Obtain two passport photos. Carefully check the photo specifications below as we reject about 90% of photos.
** There is a list of US photographers to help you. You may wish to get your photos on your way to your passport interview rather than in your home town.
Step 5 :
** Prepare for your interview by using the checklist below to avoid common errors.
** Your application will not be accepted if there are errors or missing information and you will need to return for another interview.
Step 6 :
** Check if you need to provide additional documents –
** if you are a PC8 client, check the requirements for name changes, translation of foreign documents and guarantors.
Step 7 :
** Lodge your application in person at any passport office.
** Check here to see if you need an appointment. For child applications, the application must be lodged in person by one parent.
** It does not matter whether the lodging parent is Australian.
** Children aged 16 and 17 years old must also attend the interview with one parent.
** All applications must be lodged in person (including renewals).
** There are no exceptions.
Step 8 :
** Allow up to 3 weeks to receive your new passport.
** If you have any questions, read the FAQs or call your lodging office.
Receiving your new passport :
** If you wish to have your new passport sent to you by Federal Express, you will need to pay an additional USD15 (for up to three passports to the one address). Alternatively, you can collect your passport at no charge from the office where you lodged the application
** If you prefer, you can provide a prepaid letter-sized envelope with the courier company of your choice (eg. UPS, FedEx, etc). However, you must use a service that requires a signature on delivery. We will not use your courier envelope if it allows a delivery driver to leave your package unattended. We do not send passports via the US Postal Service.
Acceptable Methods of Payment :
** Payment must be provided at the time of your interview. We accept payment by Visa and Mastercard only (credit or debit). Cash and cheques are not accepted at any office.
** You may have another person pay on your behalf if you wish. If they are not present with you at your interview, we can accept their credit/debit card payment if they complete and sign a Credit Card Authorisation Form. You must present their signed form at your interview.
Urgent Travel: Emergency Passport
** If you need to travel urgently, please advise your interviewing officer when you lodge your application. Please provide evidence of your need to travel (eg. tickets or letter from your employer).
** You may be eligible for an Emergency Passport. An Emergency Passport contains only four visa pages and has a limited validity. It does not contain a chip and cannot be used to enter the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA). It is usually issued within 2 working days, if all requirements have been met.
** Please note that not all applicants are eligible for an Emergency Passport. You should discuss your eligibility for the Emergency Passport with your interviewer before making any firm travel plans.
