Get a replacement UK citizenship certificate :
** You must pay a fee to order a replacement registration or naturalisation certificate, or to correct mistakes on a certificate.

** You can’t get a replacement certificate if you became a British citizen before October 1986 – contact UK Visas and Immigration for help.
You may be able to get a certified copy of registration or naturalisation certificates from the National Archives if:
** the registration certificate was issued between 1 January 1949 and 30 September 1986
** the naturalisation certificate was issued between 1 January 1844 and 30 September 1986
** it is needed for legal reasons
Replace a lost or damaged certificate :
** Download and complete an application for duplicate citizenship certificate.
** Complete the payment slip on the fees leaflet.
** The fee is listed on the form (under ‘Duplicate certificate’) – you can pay by cheque, or credit/debit card.
** Send both forms and your cheque (if applicable) to the following address.
Application for a Duplicate Citizenship Certificate :
** UK Visas and Immigration do not retain records of grants of citizenship prior to October 1986. Before applying for a duplicate certificate you should ensure that it was originally issued after that date.
** Certificates of citizenship are valuable documents and should be looked after. They will not be accepted as evidence of citizenship for the issue of passports if they have been defaced in any way. This includes lamination in plastic covers.
** If you are British through an automatic claim to British citizenship rather than through an application for naturalisation or registration, you should apply for a British passport.
Correct mistakes on a certificate :
** Write a letter that explains what the mistakes are on the certificate.
** Include evidence of the mistake, eg proof that your name has been spelt incorrectly.
** Complete the payment slip on the fees leaflet.
** The fee is listed on the form (under ‘Duplicate certificate’) – and you can pay by cheque, or credit/debit card.
** Send the above documents, the original certificate and your cheque (if applicable) to the following address.
