Additional information if travelling via The United States :
The authorities of the United States demands that all Passports issued after 26 October 2004, are legible (computerized reading) and after 26 October 2006 are biometric for permitting entry without visa under the Visa Waiver programme.
Extension :
In specific cases it is possible to extend the passport for up to one year if the current passport is expired or have expired within the last three months.
It is recommended to get the ordinary passports extended if a Danish citizen has to travel through the U.S. and the time frame does not permit issuing a new passport.
Validity of ordinary Passports :
1. Adults (over 18 years old) – valid for 10 years.
2. Children (between 2 and 18 years old) – valid for 5 years.
3. Children (0 to 2 years old) – valid for 2 years.
All of the passports mentioned above can be extended with one year if necessary.
Emergency Passport :
An emergency passport can be issued in the case of losing your ordinary passport or robbery. The use of the emergency passport is, however, primarily to ensure the return to Denmark and the validity of the passport is the maximum a year.
It is recommendable to apply for an ordinary passport, if time permits you to wait for a new ordinary passport (it takes approximately four weeks to arrive from Denmark).
When you travel with the emergency passport, it does not have the entry stamp and this could create problems when leaving the country. Please, search for local advice through the migration office prior to the travel to avoid any inconvenience.
