FAQs :
1. What documents do I need to have with me to fly?
A document verifying personal identity is required in all cases. A personal ID card is sufficient if you are flying between nations that have joined the Schengen Convention, but a valid passport is required for flights outside of the Schengen zone.
Entry to certain countries could also be subject to additional requirements, such as possessing a visa entitling the holder to enter on one or more occasions. Before you travel, please check the applicable regulations on the website of your airline or of the foreign ministry of your country.
2. What documents are required for children?
The same rules apply to children as to adults. If they do not have a personal ID card yet, they require a valid passport to travel within the Schengen zone as well.
3. Do foreign nationals need a visa when traveling to Hungary?
That is dependent on the nationality of the passenger. Please enquire at the embassy of your destination country located in your country, or check the website of the foreign ministry of your country. Transfer passengers may require a transit visa in some cases.
4. Where are visas checked?
Visas are checked by the airlines at the check-in counters and/or during boarding.
Please check the terms and conditions that passengers must accept when booking the flight, since some airlines require all non-EU/EEC nationals to present their travel documents and to have their boarding passes stamped at the check-in counter prior to undergoing security screening.
If the inscription ‘VISA CHECK’ is featured on your boarding pass in block capitals, this means that you must have your visa inspected at the check-in counter.
5. How long before departure should I arrive at the airport?
Check-in, i.e. the administration of bookings and baggage, usually begins two hours before the departure of the flight.
It is recommended to arrive at the airport by this time at the latest in order to leave sufficient time for all processes, even if check-in has been completed via the internet prior to arrival at the airport.
6. Where do I find the check-in counters for my flight?
Information on which counters in which terminal will serve as the location for check-in can be found on the website of Budapest Airport under the flight information section or the table showing the split of the airlines by terminals.
This information can also be obtained from your airline, or, in the case of on-line check-in, your boarding pass will specify the location of the designated check-in counter. Signs near the entrances to Terminals 2A and 2B also show the airlines performing check-in there.
In the departure hall, the numbers of the check-in counters for flights due to depart from the given terminal are shown on the central flight information board. Check-in counters are displayed here approximately 2 hours prior to departure, upon the opening of the counters.
7. When does online check-in begin?
This changes from airline to airline, so please check the website of your airline.
8. What are the weight and size restrictions applicable to hold baggage?
Rules relating to baggage are defined by the airlines. The relevant airline pages have been collected here.
