Apply Passport :

Please schedule an appointment before coming to the Consulate! All applicants including children and infants must be present at the Consulate when applying for new passports (and renewals).

Austrian citizens living abroad may also apply for a passport with the local authorities (city or county government) while in Austria for vacation etc.

The issuance of a new Austrian passport takes between four to six weeks. The issuance of an express passport can take between 3-5 days. However, the delivery time cannot be guaranteed.

Issuance of new passports for minors :
Passports issued to minors are valid for :
** under the age of two : two (2) years (free of charge)
** between the ages of two (2) and twelve (12) : five (5) years
** over twelve years of age : ten (10) years

Minors over the age of 14 may apply for a passport themselves, provided that both parents have given their written consent (either at the Consulate or before a notary public). Passports for minors under the age of 12 may be applied for at a Honorary Consulate closest to you.

Applying for a new passport :
The following original documents are required :
** Application Form
** Affidavit Adult

** Current passport (or if lost/stolen a Lost-/Theft Police Report)
** 2 recent passport photographs, not older than 6 months, according to EU-criterias for Passport-photographs

** Original Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) or valid visa
** Proof of current residence (US driver’s license, utility bill, etc.)

** Birth certificate (US certificates long version with Apostille, documents from other countries see “Related links”: Authentication/Legalization); if applicable „Certificate of Birth Abroad“

** Proof of Austrian citizenship (Staatsbürgerschaftsnachweis)
** Approval of dual citizenship and a copy of the U.S. Certificate of Naturalization if applicable (does not apply to Austrians born in the U.S.)

** Marriage certificate(s) and/or divorce decree(s) including from previous marriages if applicable (US certificates with Apostille, documents from other countries see “Related links” : Authentication/Legalisation)

** If applicable : Proof of academic degree, if you wish to have it entered in the passport (degrees from EU and EEC countries only!)
** Passport fee may be paid in cash, as postal money order or cashier’s check. Credit/Debit cards and personal checks cannot be accepted.

** Self-addressed and prepaid envelope (preferably USPS Priority), if you want your passport returned by U.S. mail. FedEx envelopes or shipping labels need to be prepaid; labels which only show a credit card number cannot be accepted. “Bill Sender” option on FedEx labels will not be accepted

All originals (current passport, citizenship certificate, birth certificate, Apostille, Green Card, Drivers License etc.) must be presented with copy.

Additional documents for children till 18 years :
** Application Form Minor
** Affidavit Minor
** Passports of both parents
** Birth certificates of parents (US certificates with Apostille)

** Proof of Austrian citizenship of child (or of parents for first application)
** Marriage certificate of parents if married (US certificates with Apostille)
** Proof of custody (residence order) of parents if divorced
