Get Good Conduct Certificate :

The criminal record register contains all criminal law convictions and is managed centrally by the Department of Police Records (Strafregisteramt) at the Vienna Federal Police Headquarters

The criminal record certificate is a document detailing either all of a person’s registered convictions or stating that there are no such convictions.

Criminal record certificates are issued upon application. Applications may be filed with any competent authority (in Austria : Federal Police Headquarters or the mayor), abroad: the Austrian consular representation authorities.

In order to verify the applicant’s identity, he/she must appear in person at least once before the responsible authority – either when applying for or when collecting the certificate.

Applicants may therefore be represented by another person for either the application or the collection of the certificate. This person is, however, required to present a power of attorney.

In the event that appearance in person is considered unreasonable hardship for the applicant (due to illness, distance from home, frailty etc.) his/her signature on the application form may be certified by a notary, a court or another official authority and forwarded to the competent authority together with a copy of the applicant’s passport or ID.

Documents required :
** Application form
** Official identification document with photo (e.g passport)

** For proving former names (which must be mentioned in the application): e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate, adoption certificate

** For a “criminal record certificate for children and youth welfare purposes”  in addition: a fully completed and signed confirmation by the employer
** consular fee € 42.00

Online application for a criminal record certificate, with the exception of a “criminal record certificate for children and youth welfare purposes” (which requires a confirmation by the employer and/or organisation), is possible using the Bürgerkarte (Citizens’ Card) or via Handy-Signatur (mobile phone signature).

Application for a Citizenship Certificate :
** The Certificate of Citizenship is the only official document giving proof of your Austrian citizenship and must always be presented when you apply for an Austrian passport.

The following documents must be presented in any case :
** Application form – dated and signed by the applicant or parents for children under 18
** Affidavit or Affidavit for Minors – completed and signed

** Original Birth Certificate of the applicant and his/her parents for children under 18 and applicants applying for a proof of citizenship certificate the first time (in case of foreign documents with an apostille) and copy thereof

** Original Certificate of Citizenship of the applicant and his/her Austrian parent(s) for children under 18 and applicants applying for a proof of citizenship certificate the first time and copy thereof

** Original Marriage Certificate of parents (in case of foreign documents with an apostille) and copy thereof

** Original Alien Registration Card or valid visa of the applicant and his/her Austrian parent for children under 18 and applicants applying for a proof of citizenship certificate the first time and copy thereof

** Consular fee (see right column)
** Self-addressed and stamped envelope (certified mail, return receipt requested) if you want your documents returned by mail.

** The Consulate cannot be held liable for any loss or theft of documents while handled by a mail/postal service.
** Please observe that incomplete applications (e.g. missing document(s) or missing apostille on US-documents) cannot be accepted.

Please note: All foreign documents can only be accepted with an Apostille or diplomatic legalization (see right column).
