Working With Children Check :
Who needs a Check?:
Not everyone who has contact with children needs a Working with Children (WWC) Check.
There are no fees for a Volunteer WWC Check.
Under the Working with Children Act 2005 (the Act), only people who engage in paid or voluntary child-related work need a WWC Check and some of these people will qualify for an exemption.
The Application Process :
After you have lodged your Working with Children (WWC) Check application at Australia Post, it will be electronically sent to the Department of Justice. It is then verified to ensure it has been filled out correctly and that your proof of identity (POI) documentation satisfies the Proof of identification requirements.
If your application contains any errors, insufficient or unacceptable POI documentation the department will contact you. Errors such as misspelt names or an incorrect date of birth can be corrected over the phone.
If the department requires you to provide additional POI documentation you will need to return to the Australia Post outlet where you lodged your application.
If you fail to submit the required documentation your application will be deemed invalid and you can not engage in ‘child-related work’ using the application receipt. To do so would be a breach of the Working with Children Act 2005 (the Act)
How is a Police Check different? :
The Working with Children (WWC) Check and a Police Check are two different checks.
Under the Working with Children Act 2005 (the Act) if you are engaged in child-related work and not exempt, you must have a WWC Check even if you have undergone a Police Check.
The WWC Check is an ongoing assessment by the Department of Justice of a person’s suitability to work with children, examining relevant serious sexual, physical and drug offences in a person’s national criminal history and, where appropriate, their professional history.
The Police Check does not involve an assessment by a government agency. It is only a list of offences at a point in time. Some organisations need the list to help them assess a person’s suitability for other kinds of work e.g. an accountant or treasurer, where they would be looking for any fraud offences.

Why have I not received a new password after three attempts to access the site? The program said it was sending it to my email address but it never came.
Also the one time I did get into the site and I can’t remember which password it was , the program said my Surname wasn’t recognised.
I must be known to the dept, because I got a letter telling me I had to access the site and reclaim the validation. My card is about to expire after 5 years.
Surely there’s an easier way to do this. I have to go to the next city and pay for computer time, and this is not only annoying, it is getting expensive.
