Thank you for visiting our website. With the exception of those nationalities listed below, anyone between the ages of 18-60 who resides in Korea is subject to the compulsory coverage under the National Pension Scheme.

Foreign nationals who overstay their Korean visa without permission will not come under the coverage of NPS

If you work for a company you will be a workplace based insured person, otherwise you will be an individually-insured person.

The foreign nationals that can not be subject to the coverage of NPS :
** Via reciprocity, foreign nationals from the following countries : Georgia, Republic of South Africa, Nepal, East Timor, Maldives, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Belarus, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Swaziland, Armenia, Ethiopia, Egypt, Cambodia, Tonga, Pakistan, and Fiji.
** Foreign nationals who lack an Alien Registration number or who have been ordered by the Korean government to leave Korea.
** Foreign nationals who have one of the following visas : D-1, D-2, D-3, D-4, D-6, F-1, F-3, G-1.
** Foreign nationals who are not subject to NPS coverage due to a social security agreement or some other treaty (e.g. Iran).

Benefit Claim ?
In the case of Old-age, Disability, and Survivor pension, visit one of our regional offices with all required documents. If you leaved Korea, you can also claim benefits by air mail.

In the case of Lump-sum refunds :
** When Applying in Korea (for applicants in Korea)
Required documents : Application form(available at any office), Passport, Alien Registration Card, Bankbook, Flight ticket. (the date of departure has to be within a month from the date of application)

** Applying overseas (for applicants outside Korea)
Application form (notarized by a notary agency of the country in which you reside and attested to by the Korean Consulate or Embassy), A copy of passport, A copy of bankbook

Types of Benefit ?
If foreign insured persons are entitled to an Old-age, Disability, or Survivor Pension, they will receive pension benefits according to the same standards as Korean nationals.

** Old-age Pension : is paid monthly to those whose insured period is 10 years or more and are over 60~65 years old.

** Disability Pension : is paid to those with a disability after the treatment of diseases or injuries incurred during the insured period (if certain requirements are met). The amount of disability benefit is determined by the degree of disability.

To the persons ranging from the 1st to 3rd degrees, benefits are paid in the form of annuities. To those under the 4th degree, benefits are paid as lump-sum amounts.

** Survivor Pension : is paid to surviving dependents whose livelihoods had been maintained by an insured person (who meet the qualifications) at the time of his/her death.
