Passport Application :
Follow these steps to ensure a complete passport application.
Adults must submit at least one document to support your identity with a passport application.
Adult Passport Renewal :
Eligibility criteria :
** You may renew if your most recent Canadian passport :
** is still valid or expired for no more than one year;
** is in the same name as your current application;
** was issued with 5-year or 10-year validity;
** is not damaged;
** was never reported lost or stolen; and
** you were at least 16 years old at the time of your previous application.
Step 1 : Adult Simplified Renewal Passport Application:
** Complete the Adult Simplified Renewal Passport Application (PPTC 054, PDF, 414 KB)
** To save time, complete the form on your computer and then print it.
** Sign each page.
** Include the payment information (if paying by credit card).
Step 2 : Include with the application:
** Your most recent passport (that meets the above criteria);
** Two (2) identical passport photos (they do not need to be signed but the name and address of the photographer and the date the photos were taken must be indicated on the back of one photo); and
** The required fees.
Important :
Your previous passport will be cancelled at the time you submit your application and can no longer be used for travel. If you submit a passport for renewal that contains a valid visa, you must indicate on the application form that you want the passport returned to you and advise us that the visa needs to remain intact (inform the agent verbally if you apply in person, or include a letter with an application submitted by mail or at a receiving agent).
Step 3 : Submit the application:
** In person; or
** By mail.
Urgent request :
If you plan to travel within the next 20 business days, apply in person at a Passport Canada office (You may pay an extra fee to expedite processing).
Adult general application :
Step 1 :
** Complete the Adult General Passport Application (PPTC 153, PDF, 464 KB)
** To save time, complete the form on your computer and then print it.
** Sign each page.
** Include the payment information (if paying by credit card).
Step 2 : Include with the application:
** Proof of Canadian citizenship (original only);
** A document to support identity;
** Two (2) identical passport photos (one signed by the guarantor); and
** The required fees.
Plus, extra documents (if applicable) :
** Any still valid Canadian travel document previously issued in your name.
** If you have changed your name.
** If you are replacing a lost, stolen or damaged passport.
Important :

Child application (under 16 years of age) :
Following the proper steps will help ensure that your application process goes as smooth as possible. Once it’s ready, your passport and any original documents you submitted will be sent to you by traceable mail (unless you applied in person at a Passport Canada office and made pick-up arrangements when you applied).

Documents to support identity :
For a child, only the proof of Canadian citizenship is required.
The adult’s identity document must :
** be in the same name as will appear in the passport;
** include your signature;
** be issued by a federal, provincial/territorial/state or municipal authority; and
** be valid.
For example :
** Provincial or territorial driver’s licence
** Provincial or territorial non-driver’s licence
** Other federal, provincial, territorial or municipal identification card
** Military identification
** Certificate of Indian Status
** Old Age Security card
** Federal, provincial, territorial or municipal employee identification card

Fees :
** 5-year Adult passport (age 16 or over)- C$120
** 10-year Adult passport (age 16 or over) -C$160
** Child passport (0 to 15 years of age)- C$57
Processing Times :
** In person at a Passport office- 10 business days
** By mail- 20 business days
** In person through a receiving agent (Service Canada or Canada Post) -20 business days
Note :
** Processing times may change depending on the volume of applications received and are not guaranteed. Complexity of routine verifications and security checks may lead to longer processing times.
** Your passport will be sent to you by mail. If you wish to pick up your passport instead of having it mailed, you must apply in person at a Passport Canada office. In addition to the regular passport fee, the following fees will apply.
Urgent and express service :
For urgent or express service :
** You must apply in person at a Passport Canada office
** Proof of travel is required for urgent service; it may also be requested for express service. Some examples of proof of travel are : an airline, bus or train ticket; a travel itinerary showing proof of payment; or a written statement, if travelling by car (acceptance is at the discretion of the passport officer).
** Urgent or express applications cannot be submitted by a third party; however, the new passport may be picked up by a third party if they provide written consent from the applicant, as well as valid identification.
